Eagle Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 Which seems to confirm that your jumpers probably fried the fusible link ...
gogmorgo Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 If the fusible link is burnt and I'm right that it also gives power to the fuel pump relay, and the fuel pump relay is still somehow attached to your fuel pump, you could have "fixed" the problem by back feeding power through from the ECU to the fuel pump, which probably isn't great for the ecu. If the ecu is even still doing something...
ComancheCrusher9800 Posted January 14, 2017 Author Posted January 14, 2017 So the reason this problem appeared was bc I was trying to set up a tach and the green cord from the tach touched one of the diagnostic testers and then the engine shut off when that happened. Does that give any ideas?
ComancheCrusher9800 Posted January 14, 2017 Author Posted January 14, 2017 There is still power to the red wire on that relay socket. Put nothing comes from the pink wire which come from the computer. There is no spark but it will turn over. Everything else. Is right. There is fuel going to the carb
gogmorgo Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 You probably blew a fuse or a fusible link in the ignition system. The tach signal comes off the coil I believe. Or you could have sent power to the wrong ECU pin and cooked the ECU if you hit the diagnostic connector.
ComancheCrusher9800 Posted January 14, 2017 Author Posted January 14, 2017 So it could be the ecu? That's what I'm thinking it is right now. Does anyone know other years/models with the same 1987 comache renix ecu?
Eagle Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 1987 thru 1990 are the Renix years. You can use the ECU from any of those years. I believe '89 and '90 are considered to be a slight upgrade for performance.
ComancheCrusher9800 Posted January 15, 2017 Author Posted January 15, 2017 Yeah does make a difference between a 2.5l and a 6cyl ecm?
HOrnbrod Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Mr. Eagle provided you a link to the parts manual. Did you try to look up the ECU p/n for your 2.5L 87 w. manual transmission? Hint: yeah, it does make a difference. See if you can find it.
ComancheCrusher9800 Posted January 17, 2017 Author Posted January 17, 2017 I bought a new ecu and yeah I figured it made a difference. I bought the exact one from oreillys. Took a nugget out of my wallet. I hope it works tho I get to try it out tomorrow
48MJ Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Also the 86- 2.5 is the same as 87. They did the throttle body injection in 86. Just to add that they are the same set up.
