madog7200
Went to replace the tail light bulbs and in all 4 stop lamps there was this yellow stuff that kind of looks like dried up play-doh... is that something that is supposed to be there or is it something that the PO did that I should clean up? Strokermjcomanche
It's to prevent corrosion . Edit: Clean it as Hornbrods says below .
madog7200
Thanks strokermjcomanche, that's what my next question was going to be since I had to use pliers to pull out the old bulbs piece by piece Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk
HOrnbrod
I wouldn't use dielectric grease since it's non-conductive and will cause problems down the road. Use a conductive lubricant like Electralube or similar.
madog7200
What kind of problems down the road is it going to cause, since I already used it the other day lol Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk
HOrnbrod
Dielectric grease is what you use sparingly on electrical connector boots to seal out moisture. An example is spark plug boots. As long as you didn't gob a spoonful of grease inside the socket between the bulb and socket contacts you should be fine.
madog7200
I just lightly coated the metal male end of the bulbs? Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk
ARareBreed
I just cleaned the yellow goo out of my sockets last night and replaced with the same quantity of this stuff: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Gardner-Bender-1-oz-Ox-Gard-Anti-Oxidant-Compound/4514334 Will it work, or should I redo it with different style grease?
