cerial
I have a 88 mj with a speedometer cable that broke after a recent rear main repair. The thing has been off half a dozen times easily. Before I go out and install another one I am looking for a alternative. The 95 4.0 that is in there now will be on it's way out within 3 years for a v8 mated to a sm465 and divorced case. Unsure about the front axle but the current Dana 30 is the main reason I did not go to a v8 already. I could see switching the transfer case to a 273 if I can get my hands on one and go from there. But, I want to try and keep the interior close to stock. The roll cage fits around the dash and I don't want to go full custom with it. What I want to know is if there is a gps box that will work with my jeep cluster. Something I could screw into the back of the cluster then locate the reciever. I am not conncerned about the odometer but want the thing to read right no matter what I throw under the hood. I seen a few places that have a mechanical to 8 or 16 pulse then you get a gps kit to feed out a signal. That should work if setting it is like swinging the needle from 0 to 85 by finger and having it read that distance. If anyone knows a jeep kit that will do what I want a link or advise would be nice. Otherwise the thing is getting aftermarket gauges.

cerial
I looked at this part wrong. I thought this: https://m.summitracing.com/parts/izl-s9013 Another one , http://www.hesco.us/products/7902/40l-conversion-parts/43100/speed-sensor-hes7015#.V-yN-XMpDqC Was using a wheel or rear end vss as a pulse and this threaded into the back of a older speedometer to swing that needle. Instead it simply screws into the transmission and provides a pulse for a aftermarket gauge something I can easily do with any gps reciever. That's out. Here is the new plan. 96 cluster with this; http://www.jegs.com/p/Intellitronix/Intellitronix-GPS-Speedometer-Sender/3621576/10002/-1 It says it works with all factory electronic gauges so it should allow me to wire it up and go. It looks like a very basic hook up with idiot leds that show me everything is working as it should. Anyone have any experience in converting a factory electronic speedometer over to gps feed? Eagle
Why wouldn't the Summit Racing speed sensor work with the '96 speedo?

mikekaz1
Why wouldn't the Summit Racing speed sensor work with the '96 speedo? I could be wrong but as I follow he just has an HO engine, but original Renix Cable cluster. not the electronic HO cluster
schardein
http://www.speedhut.com/ Go to this website and look at their "speedbox". It comes up on their main display page if you give it a second to change. I have a set of Speedhut gauges in my CJ and they are awesome. GPS speedometer, with the option of wiring it to a VSS. cerial
That speed box is exactly what I was looking for. $400 out the door with there GPS reciever option that means little to no hacking/guess work and a quick start option that saves my last location for faster pings is a huge win in my book. Thank you all for the help.
HOrnbrod
These various conversion boxes all look like they require the 3-wire Hall effect VSS sine wave input. I know the 91's and some 92's use the 2-wire magnetic reed switch VSS and have a square wave signal output, so converting those vehicles to the 3-wire VSS would be necessary.
