Lee21490
So last night someone stole my Smittybilt x20 wireless remote (Forgot i left the window down)After searching online for awhile & not finding a replacement, I called smittybilt. They want an insane $205 for a REMOTE. Highway robbery. Brother-inlaw lost a wireless remote for his winch (Forget the brand), Was a simple $40 replacement. So now I'm either stuck with a $500 paperweight, Or i Pay a $205 ransom to get it working again. :fs1: Might try to make a wired replacement for it. /end rant
DirtyComanche
I'm sure you can make a wired version, it's still just a solenoid pack that's running it... You could also buy a cheap wireless controller off Amazon/Ebay and wire that in. One came with the winch for my plow, I think I still have it sitting in the box somewhere... Blue88Comanche
I broke my remote and wired it to new controls mounted on the dash to the right of the steering wheel. I just connected it to the leads on the solenoid. Jeff
Jackrabbit41
What kind of person would steal a winch controller?!?!? Lol

87Warrior
I had my Superwinch remote stolen out of my topless TJ. Now I run a wireless remote/fob that stays on my key chain and I have incab controls. I use the heck out of the incab control and have never used the wireless remote on the trail.
DirtyComanche
I've honestly never understood the point in the wireless controller. My wired one has a long enough cord that I can use it from the driver's seat, or from anywhere I reasonably would want to be while winching. Maybe I'm getting old, but the newfangled things just don't do a lot for me.
daking
It'll be funny, cause in 3 weeks you will be cleaning, and find that remote under the seat. I personally like the wireless remotes. I use em on my trailers when loading cars. Quick n easy, no wires.. You have to take this opportunity to up grade. I see failure as a great thing, cause when it happens I get to up-grade. Not that the theft of a remote is failure, but still an opportunity to make a change. I have 3 ways to operate my winch, the corded hand held, a wireless remote, and finally an in cab control. Image Not Found (Note: there are videos showing how to wire using CAT5 cable. Don't use CAT5 cable in an automotive application. CAT5 is structural cabling using solid core conductors. It is not designed to be used in an environment with vibration. If you really want to use CAT5, then buy stranded CAT5, used to make patch cords. Personally, I used some wire from lows.
