mfpdm
Those'd be nicer on the Comanche! Mind if I ask how much you paid for both the axles and t-case? Had a brief thought of how to put them on the MJ, then put that though out of my head. Far as the price, all for $2700, which is the best price I have found after about three months looking. I first had a set of axles lined up for $3500, but that deal fell through, which work out for the best. :brows: I bought the axles for a $1000 a piece and then the guy had to say, "oh by the way, I have a t-case for an additional $700" :deal: . I was hooked.
rockhardzj
You will want to look into upgrading the front shafts, especially the stub shafts. My buddy twisted the ujoint end from the threaded end, just doing some light offroading. I had to bring him one of my several spares so he could get home. Granted, his Rubi was wheeled pretty hard previous to that (6-7' jump and bent the front axle). He just got I think alloy usa shafts. The thing is, the inner shafts are 44 shafts, the outers are 30's, meaning a weaker weak link. He also upgraded the hubs to Timken ones.

How much? J/K :jump:
JeepcoMJ
you have a menards fold-up trailer. I assembled one at work the other day, it was easy but a waste of time.

NOPE. my stuff is in the milkhouse attic, behind the barn, or sitting as you see it in pictures. my 2 hauler snowmobile trailer tho, is in the shop...just sandblasted now waiting for me to paint it and deck it. payed $10 for it with a new lift on it and bent axle, nothing wrong but surface rust and bad decking other than that...now time for AC2 4x8 plywood! but yours is a good trailer for your application, you're right

You could have done a Tera low kit for cheaper than the rubi case. You could have gone with ARB's and a regear for cheaper than the axles. The Rubi front axles have issues with the ujoints giving out, may want to search that a bit and fix it now before the install. don't take this post as a cross examination, just getting your point of view.

Lets assume his TJ has stock D30/35 unlocked with 3.07 gears and with drums in the rear. NP231 without an sye. This combo gets him the regear to 4.10s good up to 33s. Selectable lockers in both diffs. A D44 outback (big improvement over the 35) and A psuedo D44 in the front (an improvement over the 30, not huge, but still better). He aslo gets a fixed yoke style output to the Tcase and 4 to 1 gears. The rock track case is built stronger the the NP231, so thats an improvement too. He gets Disc brakes in the rear. I can't really tell in the pics, but it looks like he got a spare stock steering setup too. Doing all this individually would be a lot more coin. ARBs alone are 800 a pop. And he gets to resell his junk and atleast recoupe 400 -500 bucks. I think its pretty smart way of doing it. Especially if your goal is 33-35" tires. ps- I've never seen a Tera Low for less then 800, you got a good source?
pingpong
I too was thinking it was a bit steep cause they are stock axle... even though they are rubicons. for 2 grand you can find 14 d60 for that in useable shape.. just add brackets and acallit good. On the other hand it is a bolt on mod that will greatly enhance his riding experience. I would have done it differently if it was me, but its not . I hope you enjoy and take lots of pics

I looked at the pro's and con's of doing this and the pro's out weight the con's for the price. I was looking at getting both axles regeared, not that I could not do it, I just feel better knowing someone that does it daily and some kind of warranty, would give me piece of mind. That would have cost in the $1000-1200 range for parts and labor. That alone paid for the front axle which has the gear I want and a locker and is stronger than what I have. I would have went with a locker in the rear at least, and as stated above would have cost around $800. For $200 more I got a stronger axle in the rear, selectable locker, and disc brake upgrade. The t-case I have was going to get a SYE and new TW drive shaft which is around $500-600 which for $100 more I have a much stronger t-case with an SYE from the factory and a 4:1 crawl ratio. If you add up all that up, I'm pretty sure that I fell under that price going this route. As far as the D44 front not being too strong, There was a good article on the ROF that explained the story on them very well and made up my mind on it. I don't plan on hardcore wheeling cause this is my DD, however I do think this set up is very capable if I find myself with the urge to get a little wild. I did have shipping cost from CA to VA which almost put this in the bad deal range, but I inflated it by adding $5000 worth of insurance and over estimating the size and weight(will know better next time). On the other hand it is a bolt on mod that will greatly enhance his riding experience. This is what really made up my mind. A direct bolt in affair. The minor mods I will have to do are hook up switches and pumps for the lockers($150-200 in parts), which I will be able to select each one independently or both together and at any 4wd range or 2wd(rear), being careful of speed. The speedo calibrator I already have will work with the new t-case. And I will probably end up having TW shafts made up for front and rear, even though I could use mine with minor mods.

Besides, my use for it would be to get the AEV Brute conversion Kit for it, and build up some nice axles for it, if I got the whole thing... Otherwise, the hood and grill would be used for a buggy... Whats a jeep with no drive train worth? I'm actually getting ready to put her on ebay this weekend. I will start a thread if I actually can convince myself to do it. I will try selling her complete first unless I can work a deal with someone. I can even swap my MJ axels on her so she can still move around. I have a new baby coming tomorrow morning, new house sometime this year(long story) and I am wanting a new 4 door rubicon real bad after seeing the one my buddy got last night. :D
Rob S
I would have a hard time selling my TJ, I think I would want way to much for it. It has so much done to it, it would cost a fortune to build another one. Plus offroad it is just amazing, as well as fun to drive on the road. Here is a shot of mine. Have some offroad shots, but most of the time I'm driving so no pics. When I first bought a house most of my toys were sold, eventually you will get them back, just takes time. rockhardzj
I have no clue of the worth of a drivetrain-less, non-rolling tj... Gotta still be fairly good as a whole like that, parting it out would net more cash. I'm sure my mom would love me if I brought it home :D At least I do have axles I could stuff under it to make it look complete, and some plates to keep neighbors from bitching till I decided what direction to go with it... Hmmm................ Texas is just really far for me, from here in NY, to my dad's house in FL is a hell of a drive enough, add in the extra fuel for the weight of a trailer and a boneless TJ, and milage hits the $#!& pretty quick. My assumption is since I know of several 2003+TJ's, non-rubi's go for like 7-13k. Yours would not have the engine, electrical, tranny, tcase, axles, tires, and a few other small things, I would say like $1800-$2100 would be a pretty good asking price, Being that if you sell it to somebody who wants to build a nice trail rig, half their work is done (taking all the underpowered, and lower strength stuff out), you could probably fetch like $2300-$2500, if it comes with a title, which I assume it does. Selling it without axles and drivetraion components would allow somebody to have the vehicle body they want, with say a cummins 12 valve engine under the hood tossing out some high torque through a purpose built tranny to some custom built currie axles on some 38" super swmpers or something. The skin of your TJ could leave endless possibilities to the next owner, without him (or her) feeling guilty of terrorizing a perfectly good vehicle. Will have some cash the first week of September.
