What is everyone running for exhaust, I'm rebuilding it from down pipe to exhaust tip. I'd like to stay with 2.5" the whole way. What are you guys running for cat and muffler? Not too loud, but throaty for sure.

Real men don't need more than the manifold.

Kidding aside, the factory piping is only 2.25". Going up to 2.5" will noticeably shift your power band higher up the rev range, increasing higher-rpm power but at the cost of low-rpm torque.

I'll have to see if I've got a recording of it with the current setup... now that I actually have one. Maybe if I don't I"ll make one. But right now I'm running a flowmaster 40, can't remember if it was the Super or Original. I got it with offset inlet and centre outlet, but I think if I was doing it again I'd want a centre inlet and offset outlet. Walker downpipe for a '93 XJ because the '91 pipe has a bolted connection to the cat, then a test pipe (couldn't afford a cat at the time) muffler, and then about 18" more straight pipe and a turndown just ahead of the axle. As far as performance goes, there's a noticeable increase down low over the open manifold, but vs stock it's hard to say as it was sitting 16 months with an nfg motor between the factory exhaust and the new setup. I'll have to do some digging to find parts numbers.

My stock downpipe is 2" and the tail is 2.25". I'd like to go with 2.5" the whole way. I was thinking if maybe a turn down pipe immediately after the muffler..

I have a pacesetter header, no cat, and a enormous 30" body magnaflow muffler with 2.5" in/out and a turndown at this point.  I plan on getting a tailpipe made, or store bought here in the future.  I did the big body muffler because I had no cat (already removed by P.O.)and I wanted to keep the noise down.

What kind of sound you want, if you want any, will really determine what you go with.  I love my magnaflow because when I get on it, it makes noise, but when I am just cruising you don't hear it and it doesn't drone.   Very mellow.

I did a Custom 2.5" Magnaflow SS Hot Rod Kit and built my entire exhaust and I used a Magnaflow High Flow SS Cat with a SS Magnaflow XL muffler...

And at the cost of fuel economy.

Thanks

With my Estimated Crank HP and the fact I am Supercharging my Stroker I went 2.5" otherwise I probably would have stayed 2.25"

I like the Tips here for exhaust sizing as Its about the only thing I have seen that's practical..
