Minuit
Hey fellas, just wondering if anyone has had experience with this before I dive in and start swapping out parts. My truck ('91 2wd stock height blah blah blah) has slight bump steer. It doesn't rip the wheel out of your hand but if you let off the wheel and go over a bump it's definitely noticeable. I crawled underneath and noticed my drag link and track bar are close to being parallel but not quite. What would cause this? My lower and upper control arms are new, and my alignment is correct. When I crawl under the truck I don't notice any looseness but the front end does occasionally clunk at high steering angles. This leads me to believe I might be needing a track bar - does that sound right? I'm not really feeling like throwing parts at it, or else I'd just replace the entire steering linkage. Incommando
The track bar is a likely culprit. Check to see it the body side mounting hole has wobbled out. This is not uncommon.
onlyinajeep726
Trac-bar is likely your problem. A stock TB is not too expensive.
Eagle
Taking you hands off the steering wheel is not a test of bump steer. Bump steer is when you hold the wheel straight but the vehicle changes direction when going over a bump.

Gene
Hi Minuit, Could this be a failing steering damper? The steering dampers have been criticized in a number of posts regarding the death wobble. They will not prevent this. However, they probably would help in your situation. It sounds like you're actually describing a situation where you're noticing the "road feedback" more than you're accustomed. Anyone else have thoughts on this? Then you are not experiencing bump steer.
