whowey
I'm running 33 x 12.5" on my XJ. I'm also using 8" el-cheapo steelies with a 3.75" backspacing. But, I have a love affair with the sawz-all. I trimmed about 2.5" out of the fenders, and I have it lifted 3.5" Perfect solution? Not by a long shot. But they ride smoothly, I keep them aired up to about 40 lbs. on the road. They do feel pretty heavy when rolling down the road, and Illinois' wonderful roads. They were not fun for the tire shop to balance.
CWLONGSHOT
When I bought the 9.50's the guy had them mounted on 15X8's and MAN did they look funny!!! 7 or even 6" rims are much preferred!!! 87, another nice point is that you can run FACTORY rims!! WAY cheap!!! Jeepco, you won't have any problem with tire wear resulting from running your 12.5's on a 8" rim. BUT, run them over/under inflated and you DEFINITELY WILL!! If you want ultimate wear. rotate often, keep allignments in check and find the correct inflation based on vehicle weight. A chalk test, across the entire tread works well for me. Most tire places will recommend to you a min of a 9" rim width for a 12.5" tire width. But 9"is NOT a common size at all. Besides, where they came up with it is uncertain. Unless its strictly a "formula" based of width. A 15X8" rim with a 12.5" wide tire is pretty much a standard fare for wheelers the world over. Whowey...I can see where you got you name....40Lbs    ... Man, you must BOUNCE down the road!!! ;) You will be wearing the centers out of theose tires!!! The Firestone Destinations ride flat at 40 lbs. They needed that much pressure to take the spongy feel out of them at road speed. Even at 35 psi they still had some feeling of softness, when I hit pavement buckles.
CWLONGSHOT
Here is my MJ on 33X12.5's here it is on 33X10.5's and here it is on 33X9.5's BTW, 40lbs is MAX inflation for seating a bead (STD sized tires), running them at that inflation is not the best idea. 32-35lbs is MAX at MAX payload rating. Something around 25-28 is likely where you should be. Not trying to tell you what to do, you can do that for your self. Just letting you lnow and understand the ramifications of those decisions. JeepcoMJ
CW, I like the looks of the 12.5's the best, looks sharp. looks don't outweigh performance. I agree that 12.5's are not ideal, but price is my savior here and I gotta do what I gotta do...even if I buy a set of cragars, my investment will be a mere 4-5 hundred dollars for BRAND NEW tires on rims. that's a deal one can't pass up, especially when it's the tire size desired. mfpdm
my investment will be a mere 4-5 hundred dollars for BRAND NEW tires on rims. Keep your eye on craigslist. I've noticed that alot of people have been selling off tires with very few miles on them around here. I think the gas prices last month hit alot of those massive SUV's hard in the pocket :brows: I lucked out last year getting my 33X12.5 FC II's from craigslist. They were brand new, never mounted. Guy bought them then traded his truck before he put them on. Saved around $250. :D
87manche
I'll second that, I picked up my swampers for $450, mounted on 15x8s with 90% tread.
