MJCanadian
Hey guys, just joined. I'm 16 and bought my first rig a couple of months ago. As far as insurance goes and gas prices for a 16 year old go (if any of you can remember that far back) 4x4's are pricy and 2WD works pretty good around town. But I was talking to JeepcoMJ on facebook about a conversion... if I can get convince my shop teacher to let me use his shop for a week next semester I would like to be able to have 4WD for the winter, (and I can obviously just switch to 2WD with the T-case to save gas) So as far as I know i'm gunna need to buy a wrecked cherokee and pull out the front axel, T-case, front drive shaft, shorten my rear driveshaft/buy new one, remove tranny spacer etc. Jeepco metioned spline problems with the 2WD transmission and the T-case. Would like some help in planning this out and seeing if i'll be able to do this. Thanks

Pete M
Seek out a 4wd transmission. Better yet, get one that is still bolted to the t-case, then you know it'll work. :D
JeepcoMJ
yep mike, a 2wd output spline won't work with a 4wd spacer and t-case. you'd need that output spline and for what it's worth, you'd SAVE money by buying a 4wd tranny... don't forget shifter handle and linkages for the 4wd...that's 2 rods, one pivot piece, and the bushing and mount for the pivot piece, then the handle. braden_3
I'm another 17 year old Canadian converting to 4X4:D 2wd in this country is just dumb! Hey MJCANADIAN, got any pics of your MJ?
MJCanadian
I'll put some pics up later tonight, i'll include the pics of the floor pans i'm welding in right now if anybody wants to see how I'm doing those. Pat, If I do find and entire 5spd 4X4 cherokee, would all the linkages and shifter handle positions be the same in the manches? and if I can't find a 5spd cherokee, how much work/money would it be to change the output shaft on the tranny? MJCanadian
Ok, took a while to figure out pic posting but here it goes. Just bought it, drove it home from Guelph for $1800 (CAN), 206 000km on the odo Snows melted, Dad gave me the garage for as long as I need it. So far have bought replacement shocks, coils springs, exhaust pipe and muffler, re-sealed the rear Diff cover cause it was leaking and put in that mint new radiator. All parts are OEM replacement because I have connections that get my 50-60% off OEM parts from CANUSA. Ex: that rad cost me $87 + tax. Old Interior New Interior (Before Pic) Current Project, I have about 5 panels like this, they're all ground and cleaned. Two have been welded in and this weekennd I'll start on the third (Mid-way Pic) So right now my goal is to complete everything that will get the truck safetied ie: floors, by mid-July, than in the Fall I'll think about taking it off the road again for a bit to do the fun stuff like converting to 4WD, 3.5 lift and some 31.5's or 33's. Eagle
Gawd! Use smaller pictures next time. Not only do those take forever to load, even with a 19" monitor I have to scroll around to see everything.

I can almost garuntee you able to fins what you need to about 300 bucks if you wait long enough for a cherokee to pop up for sale, not to mention you will find someone who will give you a hand if you need it. as far as getting your tech answered, stay on here the people are a lot nicer and a lot more of a help in my opinion. A lot of times you will get flamed on the other websites, although I admit that there are some really nice people on jeepkings as well
