GeorgiaJeeper93
So the belts on my 86 Mj are dry-rotted, and I'm in need of some new ones. Problem is, I have too many options. Unfortunately I'm using my phone at the moment so I have no way to upload pictures, but I need the one that has the grooves in it, I belive it's called the v belt. I'm probably wrong on that though. I also need the smooth one. Rockauto has belts for my truck, but some day with ac, others say without and I don't know which ones I need. My truck does have factory ac, power steering, etc. Problem is, I don't know which belt is supposed to power what. Any help?

Strokermjcomanche
I have a 4.0 w/ Ac and this the belt I got and it doesn't squeak (rest of them do ) - gator back Continental Elite 4061025 Poly-V / Serpentine Belt - on amazon The Op has an 86 which shouldnt have a 4.0 from the factory Iirc There are several belt routings/configurations in 86 so you may be better taking the part numbers off of your old belts to be sure or what numbers you need . GeorgiaJeeper93
Thanks for the replies. My truck is the 2.5l. I can only read the part number off of the belt with grooves. It's 150430 11AV1090. No idea what to do to get the other one.
Strokermjcomanche
The belt number you referenced is a 15430 dayco or a 7430 gates , whichever you prefer ..

HOrnbrod
The below are all the possible belt(s) routings for an 86 2.5L. Which configuration do you have? Let me know and I can cross reference the p/n's for the correct belts. I suspect the 1-2 diagram?Image Not FoundIf so:Belt #1 = Dayco 15430 or Gates 7430Belt #2 = Dayco 17465 or Gates 9465
GeorgiaJeeper93
Thank you for that. Just curious, when I went to order them, it says w/o ac, but my truck has ac. Is that normal?

HOrnbrod
Only two. And only 4 pulleys Then the info I sent you is correct for a stock 86 MJ 2.5L w. two V-belts according to the factory parts manual. If it's been modified :dunno: .
GeorgiaJeeper93
Gotcha. I'll roll the dice and order those. I guess worst case, I have no a.c, which is what windows are for anyway. Lol Thanks for all your help!
GeorgiaJeeper93
So, I'm changing the belts today. I got the alternator belt on without too much trouble. Now I cannot figure out how to get the power steering pulley to move so I can get the belt on. Any ideas?
