Dom U Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Ok here's what I'm thinking I want Ford 8.8 in the rear staying spring under axle with four and a half inch Hell Creek springs and level out the front with four and a half in. Rubicon Express coils from my understanding going to spring under with a Ford 8.8 you lose about in inch. Sitting on 32 inch Cooper STTs. With 410 gears. Now my my question is how how well will this setup perform on the street as well as off road it'll pretty much be a weekend warrior and daily driver. Also do you think that set up would sit level? Would 31 inch Cooper STT be a little better with the 410 gears compared to the 32 inch I like how the 32 inches are a bit wider. Thank you very much for any opinions you may have 1988 4.0 renix auto
shelbyluvv Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 My 89 is sitting on 4.5" lift with 265/75r16s (32s) and it is perfect for dd/ww duties. I still have 3.55 gears but will be going to 4.10s pretty soon. I don't think you'll be disappointed with 4.5" of lift.
Dom U Posted October 16, 2015 Author Posted October 16, 2015 What rear axle are you useing and soa or sua? I'd assume 3.55 gears would really suck with 4.5 lift and 32s but Iv been wrong plenty of times xD. I My 89 is sitting on 4.5" lift with 265/75r16s (32s) and it is perfect for dd/ww duties. shelbyluvv Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 I have a Dana 44 and I am SUA also. It isn't terrible with the 3.55s and 32s but it could be a lot better. I get about 17mpg and have decent power.
mikekaz1 Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 a 33 vs 32 inch tire is a 3% difference in rotational mass (given the same width). 32"=311RPM vs 33"=330RPM would 32 be better yes. would it be noticeable? probably not
mikekaz1 Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 https://tiresize.com/calculator/ this is an awesome site for finding size specifics and comparisons.
gogmorgo Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Yes, it's only a three percent increase in mass, but it's also equivalent to a three percent increase in gear ratio. That's a combined effect of 9%. Not only that, but the extra mass of the tire is largely concentrated toward the outside of the tire, increasing it's effect on rotational acceleration. You're looking at about a 10% reduction in acceleration, which is more than enough to be noticeable on the butt dyno.
shelbyluvv Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 The difference between 33s and my current 265s was dramatic. I can live with the way it is now. There is no way that I would run 33s on 3.55s again.
Dom U Posted October 16, 2015 Author Posted October 16, 2015 How would 33s, with 4.10 gears with the lift mentioned above compared to 32s for on-road handleing? And I also like to make sure I'm correct on the lift since I'm staying spring on her with the Ford 8.8 and will be used in Hell Creek 4.5 inch springs I should expect about three and a half inches of lift correct? Would running the Chevy drop shackles with it counter the springs under effect of the one inch loss? I'd like to sit at four and a half inches of lift or very close but not over due to the fact I want the best on-road and off-road handling I can have and I feel that combination would work pretty well please correct me if I'm wrong with about this, that's why I'm posting thank you everyone (:
MrSimon Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Leaf springs rarely give exactly the advertised lift height. They can be off as much as an inch in either direction. I would recommend getting your new leaf springs in place first, then level out the front, and then see how it works with the 32s you already have.
