HOrnbrod Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Nope. As long as you use steel shims at the correct degree angle you need.
Incommando Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 couldn't find the image I was looking for so i made my own. apologizes for the crudeness. I know there are better versions out there and will include a better one if I can find it. red is the lower control arm. black is the arc of suspension travel. arrow indicates the immediate direction of travel up once the tire first contacts a positive obstacle (meaning a rock rather than a hole). Jeep is traveling to the right. The left image is a stock suspension. note that the direction of travel is up and then back, effectively absorbing the impact with the spring. the middle is a lifted suspension. note the forward direction of travel which jolts the truck up a bit before the spring absorbs the impact. The image on the right is the same lift but using a bent arm. note that the arc and direction of travel is exactly the same as the middle image. Thanks. That makes sense
Jackrabbit41 Posted May 29, 2015 Author Posted May 29, 2015 If I get the 5.5 inch alexia lift should I get a SYE? Also where do I get shims for setting pinion angle? And do I need a T case drop? Thanks
dunnc1991 Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 No need for a SYE or t case drop due to the long wheel base of the MJ. You shouldn't need shims if you're doing an axle swap. Just set the pinion angle to what it should be. If you do need them, most any off road parts website should sell them.
Jackrabbit41 Posted May 29, 2015 Author Posted May 29, 2015 So should j just center skein perches and shock mounts on the axle tube?
