Wiggilez
so i'm considering the above upgrade for my 44 I just picked up, but my research has left me with a few questions, the biggest being will stock steelies fit over this assembly, or will I have to get aftermarket rims? from what i've found people have said both yes and no :/ Edit,I also read that D35 disk of a ZJ will work with this, do they mean just the disk, or do they mean to whole set up? HOrnbrod
I have Explorer disks on my 44 and have tried several Jeep wheels including the steelies and they all cleared except for the alloy Canyon wheels.

HOrnbrod
Don't know. They were 15" x 8" and rubbed on the caliper.
JeepsOLot
Is there a link to find out what stuff I need off the Exploder for the D44 disk conversion? I'm really interested in this! Thanks! Jerry

Crash
Yes, the ZJ D35/44 disc setup is plug n pray for the D35/44 in XJ/MJ. Even the 8,25 with a little clearancing on the backing plate hole.

JeepsOLot
Sweet, thanks! This and the WJ brake booster/master cyl mod should make it stop a whole lot better!! Jerry

This isn't entirely correct. Non c clip dana 35's are not plug and play with ZJ discs. Most mjs have the non c clip dana 35.

The same is true for the D44 axle since it has the same axle flange bolt pattern as the non c-clip D35.

HOrnbrod
You can purchase the correct backing plates for the D44 as well as the preload spacers to make up for the disk thickness directly from Teraflex. Probably other places too. All the rest of the stuff (rotors, calipers, etc.) are Ford Explorer.
Dillithium
I'm not sure they sell the backing plates seperately, but these are the spacers: https://teraflex.com/shop_items/528ffa7fead962f416e73011 Also relevant: http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/Disc_brakes/

I would not have posted if they did not. I purchased a pair from Teraflex when I swapped my disk brakes from a c-clip D35 to a D44. About $65/ea with the preload spacers IIRC. That is some excellent information, sir  For people who want to keep their Non C clip D35/D44 and want discs, that is pretty cheap! It's hard to believe the whole kit is 600 some dollars, when those are the parts that matter most.
HOrnbrod
I should elaborate a bit. I purchased the plates about four years ago. The first idiot I talked to at Teraflex wanted ~$150/ea and was a total asshat on the phone. So I called back and asked for Doug (ext 318) whom I had dealt with before. I explained what I wanted to do (swap the disks from a c-clip D35 to a D44 because I upgraded the axle), and he came up with the much lower price. But I've no idea if he still works there and what the price is now. :dunno:
