Jackrabbit41
Just got myself a 1995 2 door 4x4 Cherokee with a manual tranny. Using it for parts. The doors are manual windows and locks so I'm leaving those on but I'm taking out the motor tyranny Seats and brake booster. Pics coming tomorrow
88whitemanche
You can sell the doors alone....they'll probably can get you half your money back...and even more if you have the rear vent windows....especially the Dana 44 you mentioned in your other post.... Jackrabbit41
Just took her for a spin around the block. She runs good but the battery is totally shot. I was hoping it had 4.10s but both of the tabs that say on the diff are gone so I don't know what It has
jpnjim
Awesome "first car" you're off to a great start. Just took her for a spin around the block. She runs good but the battery is totally shot. I was hoping it had 4.10s but both of the tabs that say on the diff are gone so I don't know what It has 1995 Manual Transmission XJ? if it's a 4.0L it would have 3.07's if it's a 2.5L it would have 4.10's If it's really a D44, it must have been swapped in my a previous owner. Factory installed XJ Dana 44's were long long gone by 1995, so it's anyones guess what gears it has. More likely it's an Dodge 8.25" axle then with the manual trans, it's 3.07's, or 4.10's depending on which engine it has. Good luck and keep posting pics

I thought it was a Dana 44 just cause it looked bigger then a 35 but I really had/have no idea
jpnjim
Anything could have been swapped in, but I'd guess for that year and combo it's a 3.07 geared 8.25" axle. 8.25 is bigger than a D35, has C-clips, and a flat bottom. Pics of all the different diff covers have been posted here before, but are easy to find online. You could also look at the brakes. 8.25's usually have small/wide brake drums (9"x2.5") 85-89 Comanches/Cherokees like yours should have come with 10x1.75" drums. You can tell the difference between the two from the outside. D44's would likely have 10"x2.50" drums
Jackrabbit41
Does anyone have any recommendations for shocks after I do my 8.8 swap? I'm doing the alexia lift so it 6 inches in the back and 5.5 in the front. I have everything but the shocks

88whitemanche
The bronze color thing is the clutch fork.... And yes you need the front driveshaft...idk the difference from a b/a10 shaft to a ax15 but keep it as a spare even if you don't need it.... Jackrabbit41
today is monday, and ever since friday I've been doing the ax15 swap. its been going well, no issues until yesterday, sunday, when we found out about the PB and the different size. today, monday, i went to a machine shop and had a new brass bushing made for 35$, which was sweet and only took 30 mins. hopefully i can have the clutch and flywheel back on in the next hour or so and then start putting her back up in the comanche. Also, do all of the comanche plugs, and breathers fit on the ax15? or do i need to do some wiring?. thanks! I also got to borrow a tranny jack from work, Imco Construction, and that has been really helpful so far. Jackrabbit41
tranny is all in. I started school right in the middle of it so i didn't get to finish it until the following saturday. it went well other then i might have an oil leak and i couldn't get a U-Joint all the way seated in so i had to take it to a shop but it was free so that was dope. this oil leak is just worrying me. it could be the oil pan gasket because i didn't put any sealant on the corners of it like the directions said (didn't read them until it was all said and done) or hopefully not the rear main. i replaced it and had no problems with it. maybe I'm wrong about this oil leak. ill just have to keep monitoring my oil levels. Jackrabbit41
Finally got around to posting some more stuff. So far, the tranny is running great. I still have out the new 4wd linkage on and i still need to connect my 2 piece axle. Because school started I haven't been working so my income base come to a stop. Because I'm out of $$$ I've been working on my parts cherokee and 8.8. I pulled both axles and brake booster out of the cherokee and then had it picked up for free. I welded the axle tubes to the housing on the 8.8. I preheated the housing to 400 and spot welded it so hopefully it'll hold up. I also got a DIY diff cover for the 8.8 and I love how it looks and turned out. The paint I'm using on the axles is rustoleom hammered black. My next project is to finally get the 8.8 in, the new lift, and this dana 30 that needs some work. I'm going to paint it tonight and then take it to get re geared soon. It need some new brakes so ill probably just by factory ones from napa. I'm going to paint this 8.25 i got too and try to sell it. Thanks y'all!! ">http:// ">http:// ">http:// I sold the u bolts so moving the cherokee around was a pain. I end up having to use 2 winches and an engine lit to get it over this 2 inch curb and into my "work zone". At one point the axle was underneath the rear doors. Jackrabbit41
Just made a truss for my HP30 out of 1/4inch 4 inch flat stock. Never done anything like that before, it was fun. Don't worry, I preheated everything and so far welds are holding

Jackrabbit41
Well, I was playing football with my buddies and afterwards I was heading out of the parking lot and did a donut. There was no people or cars around. Got reported, the pulled over, and almost got a reckless driving charge. This was on a college campus and now I can't ever go back anywhere on it (thus college campus is 1/4 mile away and I go there many times a month so it sucks). I know I should be thankful I didn't get reckless but man I'm still pissed. Who hasn't done a donut in a empty parking lot? My sister has in her Jetta. Just adds character to my Comanche. Lol

I went to walker valley for my third time yesterday (Saturday) and I went in some jeep trails there. It's nice becuase they are all labeled and have names. After I do my axle swap I'm wanting to go there and hit some of the trails I rode on my quad.
