headlight alarm

Recommended Posts

A new law in MA, headlights have to be on while wipers are on, also the 1/2 hour before, and after sunrise & set. Is there an inexpensive part, or way to rig up a headlight on alarm when you turn off the ignition, and / or open the door? My 86 Comanche has no such thing. Yes, I have been jumped twice in the past 4-5 years from forgetting to shut the lights off when It was light after getting to work.

Thanks!

You could always use a relay to your lights. put a relay that that will trip on and off when you turn car on and off. Basically power would always been on to headlight however in the relay switch to allow the headlights to come on, it needs power from another source to trip it. You get the from the same source as say your cigarette lighter. the relay for on and off only requires low amps .

An additional relay is not necessary in this case - headlamps draw no amps when shut off. Your MJ originally came with a chime alarm module with a headlamps ON warning when you turn the ignition off. This module is either missing, broken, and/or does not have the headlamp ON alarm feature (there were two modules, one w/o the headlamp ON feature). Just get the blue module as described in my previous post, plug it in, and you will know immediately your headlamps are on when the key is turned off.

Mine did not come with the alarm at all. Only buzzer that key is left in . My truck did not come with a/c either lol. I bought my truck in 1997 from my uncle who drove it a total of 15,400 miles since he ordered it. He never did much other then a few oil changes. I got the truck almost like new. it must of been a option or the model. Mine is a pioneer model. I can leave the lights on and it will not buzz and kill battery. So I have the relay hooked up and the light switch always stays on. I have not taken anything off my truck, just added the under dash a/c heater system since I would have to replace the box and gotten a different control center for air.

Can that blue module be purchased new? I normally don't like alarms, but since I don't drive my Pioneer every day I often forget to do things like shut off the lights... (yea, stupid of me, but I got spoiled by my Crown Vics automatic stuff lol)

I have my headlights relayed off the headlight switch and direct powered off the battery/alternator.  I'm quite happy throwing a switch to turn lights on and off vs adding more complexity to my lighting circuit at this point lol.  It is a good idea though, and I may consider it in the future.

I don't have that blue module on mine. I like my relay because I leave lights on all the time anyway. it don't kill battery because shuts off when I turn key off. however to each there own...

It don't? Maybe you can put your parking, signal, and dash illumination lights on other relays and junk your headlight switch entirely. :rotfl2:

Okay Nori Kudos, I think I understand now. So if I wanted a simple headlight ON alarm as the original poster asked, should I just plug in the blue alarm module on the left, or wire up a relay kludge similar to the system on the right?
