jimoshel
Got a wild fire burning along the river bottom a couple miles East of me. That area is just covered with dead cottonwood trees and brush. The little town of Fowler is right in its path. They got a call out for every piece of fire equipment that can be spared to every town around. Can't see the fire itself but can see the glow over the horizon. And the wind sure isn't helping. If it ain't one thing it's another.

jimoshel
Don't believe a Alabama lad is watching a Colorado fire on TV, although it is being broadcast on all the local stations.

Just one last post at April 1, 11:55 PM. How's the fire now Jim? Pretty well contained?
87Warrior
Shoot, the Kansas prairies have been on fire for a month and we have another month to go. Don't worry, I've already burned around my place so the MJs are safe :)
jimoshel
Nope. It's still burning out of control. And the wind isn't helping any. And it IS NOT a April Fool joke. In this part of the country, one does not joke about prairie fires,
johnj92131
Jim, Having survived a couple of wild fires here in San DIego, just be prepared to evacuate and pack a few things you can not do without. NOT MJ stuff. Things like pictures, Passports, insurance documents, etc. Then be sure you have at least 2 different evacuation routes clearly planned. Most important - get your self and family out of their EARLY. For you Easterners, you can not out run a wind whipped fire storm. Just simply can not do it. The 2003 Ceder Fire in San DIego destroyed more than 2800 homes, including 360 in my own Scripps Ranch neighborhood. That fire jumped 24 lanes of I- 15 freeway with no problem. It stopped at the I - 805 only because the wind change directions. Had the wind not changed, the fire would have burned directly to the Pacific Ocean. Best of luck, Jim. In this part of the country, one does not joke about prairie fires, Was not joking about the fire Jim, was joking about the "I can see it from here Jim" statement. Probably a poor joke............ It looks like good progress is being made at containment. Hopefully this is the case: http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/local-news/fowler-river-fire-burns-130-acres-85-percent-contained
jimoshel
They had it under control yesterday afternoon but the wind picked up last nite and it's out of control again.
gogmorgo
A wild fire is never under control until it's completely extinguished. I work in a national park in the summers, and they do "prescribed burns" there... basically they take the areas most at risk and deliberately burn them in a "controlled" manner before they catch fire on their own. Very rarely do they get hugely out of hand, but I've yet to hear of them managing not to burn a few extra square miles beyond what they intended. xjrev10
When I was in CO this last week, they where burning like crazy all around Grand Junction, CO. Assuming prescribed burns.
