Couldn't find any answers with search so I'll ask. Got a chance to pick up a 1998 Dodge 3.9 engine. Would this make a good swap into a MJ? :dunno:

It's ok at best. It is basically a 318 with two cylinders removed. It would be just as much work to do a 3.9 swap as a 318/360 swap. Unless it is free, comes with a good transmission and all the wiring I would walk away from it.

Awful engine. Had a ram with it in high school. Parents bought it new in 97, sister got it as hand me down in 02ish, it threw a rod through the block at about 80k miles, my dad put a new crate engine in, I got it in 04ish. What a dog. It broke down multiple times on me. Always annoying things. Ignition, fan, starter. We sold it at like 90k miles with the barely broken in engine. Good riddance. Not worth the work

Hey,, Tnx for the inf. Fella is parting out a truck. I went out about 3 months ago and took a look at it. Bad tranny, Good running engine, I passed on it then. He called me this AM. Wanted to know if I still wanted it. Said he'd give it to me if I wanted it. He wants it out of his way. It's 120 miles from me  Just wasn't sure how desirable it was.

Jim,

Anita's son purchased a Dakota new with the V6, it ran a full life with minimal trouble as a daily driver.  Just replaced the Dakota with a Tacoma this year.  Just nothing special about the engine.  Should be easier to put a good 4.0 or even a 2.5 in an MJ.

How did that old Nissan diesel conversion turn out?  That conversion could be worth the work to me.

Kind of got side tracked on that. Got the engine blocked in place and the mounts made up for. Got busy on other stuff. Was looking at it the other day and telling myself to get on it.
