Strokermjcomanche
You can have a 2wd shaft shortened for around $100 . Making a brand new one will be around $300 .
Incommando
Shortening 2wd shafts sometimes runs into problems. Not always but sometimes. It is a bizarre 2-piece design connected by a rubber sleeve that degrades and must be dealt with prior to welding even if it is not. Besides it is a huge rock-catching monster. An easier to find option is to go to a junk yard and find a shaft that uses the same 1310 u-joints. They are very common under 1/2 ton trucks. I paid $10 for mine. Then have that shortened to fit your old one's length, With new u-joints it runs about $100-$125 around here.

Jeep Driver
I had mine built at a local shop, Ferguson's, he is a Spicer authorized dealer/manufacturer. Cost was $225. I brought him my yoke and a measurement, he handed me a new DS with Spicer ujoints. Check here- http://www.4xshaft.com/ They offer a new rear DS for the XJ at $199, can't be much more for the MJ. Despite what is illustrated and instructed on that website- Insert your yoke, measure center to center of the ujoints, yoke to yoke, give them that measurement. Insert your trans end where it would normally ride, you will see the seal wear on the yoke, it's from that position you want to measure from.
