Hidden/Under Bed Storage Box Idea

Recommended Posts

I got the idea after seeing the hidden storage compartment in the bed floor of a Honda Ridgeline.

Has anyone ever removed the spare tire out from underneath the bed and put a box there?

Measure and cut the bed floor and have hinges on the floor so it opens to the storage box? Have a rear winch in their too?

The way Id see it, is being the size of a gas tank on a XJ hanging down before the rear bumper.

Its just an idea I thunked up few weeks ago and I can't find anyone that has done this to any other rigs.

I need more storage space, and having a flatbed ""I'm gonna have walls and a tailgate built soon"" with just a tool box bolted to the floor behind the cab to carry and secure my tools and gear isnt enough for me.

Future expedition MJ ;)

Trying to be creative to have XJ space in a MJ lol. Either this or try to figure out a bed roof rack? :dunno:

That bed floor box idea seems cool until you need something form inside it and you gotta unload stuff from on top of it to get to it. And.... sealing it from the elements would require quite a bit of fab work.

I'm going to use a pair of fenderwell bed boxes on each side of a bed mounted spare at the front of the bed. For out on the trail, I'll have another removeable box to mount at the tailgate end with trail gear and spares that i don't need to haul around all the time.

And having just re-read your post, you said you have a flatbed..... so why not bed side boxes?

Here is a cool thread over on pirate4x4 of a bunch of flat beds guys have built for toyota trucks:

Must be nice to live where it never rains or snows ... Around here, something like that would just be a portable reservoir.

It keeps our tin rust free...but drivers around here flip out whenever there's the slightest bit of precipitation. Double edged sword, my friend.
