projectMANCHI
Watched a video on how to remove a starter from a cherokee and it was just 2 simple bolts and then the connections, the setup on my 86 2.5L comanche is very different and i can't figure out what bolts to remove? Any advice?
87MJTIM
S/B 2 bolts and 1 wire You may have to remove the bolts from opposite sides.
87Warrior
Your 86 may have the remote (motorcraft style) solenoid on the inner fender, not attached to the starter like most. Regardless, you will still need to remove the wires from the starter and unbolt it from the block. The starter bolts are easier to access on the 2.5 than the 4.0. PRO TIP: Pull the positive battery cable from the battery before poking around the starter.

projectMANCHI
The solenoid is on the starter i already made sure of that, but are the two bolts horizontal or vertical i can't seem to locate them from under the truck
87MJTIM
Parts diagram shows the 2.5 is perpendicular to the starter, 4.0 is parralel (spelling?)
Rockfrog
Should be two bolts going up through the starter face (where it meets the bellhousing) like a Chevy ... On my 92 they were external torn heads, 86 hopefully is a normal her head.
Rockfrog
The 4.0s have one coming into the starter through the bell, and the other into the bell through the starter.
87Warrior
Whoops, I should have been more specific. The 2.5 starter bolts are VERTICAL, near the bell housing. Guessing either 1/2" or 13mm socket, I don't recall. I just took a peek while adjusting the trackbar on my 86.
