What pilot bearing do I need to use when going to an AX-15 from Peugot? Thanks in advance. ('89)

uh...just buy the clutch kit for the ax15, you WILL need a ax-15 specific clutch. pilot bushing comes with it.

What's an AX-15 specific clutch?

the one for a 4.0 with an ax15 tranny. it's the EXACT one you'd need, so it's the one that you'd need to get...rather than piecing them together.

never put a "new" tranny in without replacing the clutch...unless you know the clutch is low miles or new.

AX-15 bearing won't fit. Peugot equipped 4.0's have different pilot bearing dimensios.

that makes NO sense...why would jeep waste the time to provision for different pilot bearing equipped crankshafts? It would make more sense to simplly make pilot bearings that fit the transmission and a STANDARD size crank pilot outside diameter (whatever diameter they decided on).

that makes me mad actually, tha'ts REALLY dumb.

If I remember this right, the early AX-15s will need a pilot bearing from their same year 4.0L. Later year AX-15s can use a bushing from a CJ. It's a $2 part (not to be confused with the more expensive and wrong bushing that was also available in some CJs).

if you have your parts guy cross that over to one made by dorman, you will find the $2 bushing.

74 CJ5 with a 258 engine will get you there too!

I'll check out that part number. I thought I remember hearing it was a CJ bushing that worked, just wasn't sure. Thanks again guys.
