Hi All,

I have a 1992 MJ 4.0L 5-speed and the starter is going out....

What's the better starter to purchase? I'm looking for quality...not overly concerned with price...

THanks!

Find a local shop that rebuilds them for you on site.  You get your old starter back with new parts.  No C.R.A.P. (Chinese Replacement Auto Parts).

Thanks all.

What about a powermaster 9004? Claims 180 ft-lbs of torque...can't find any reviews though.

I just bought a new Delco starter from Amazon for $66.

Thanks, I just did the same. Seems to be the best option for the stock (low compression) motor.

Thanks again!

Lower than compared to my BMW i6 :P although I wouldn't exactly say the jeep motor is a high compression motor either.

The 4.0L starter is the same one as used on the 5.9L engine. It's plenty adequate.

Johnny, how's that Amazon Delco unit? Brand new, remanned, or ? "Offshore" unit?

I'm thinking about grabbing one.

Sure. I just meant my motor isn't some built-up monster.

AC Delco, formerly one of the most respected parts vendors, now made in China too.  :shake:

Why am I not surprised. I'll pass............

Yeah, brand new made in China. I figure that AC Delco has their QC people over there, so I'm not concerned. But then again, I'm Asian, so what the hell do I care? :)
