best starter?

Hi All,

 

I have a 1992 MJ 4.0L 5-speed and the starter is going out....

 

What's the better starter to purchase? I'm looking for quality...not overly concerned with price...

Mean Green Starters are pretty nice from what I've heard, but they're like 300$

Find a local shop that rebuilds them for you on site.  You get your old starter back with new parts.  No C.R.A.P. (Chinese Replacement Auto Parts).

What about a powermaster 9004? Claims 180 ft-lbs of torque...can't find any reviews though.

No need to go nuts here. 99% of starter failures on 4.0s are due to leaking oil filter adapter seals saturating the starter anyway.

Lower than compared to my BMW i6 :P although I wouldn't exactly say the jeep motor is a high compression motor either.

The 4.0L starter is the same one as used on the 5.9L engine. It's plenty adequate.

Yeah, brand new made in China. I figure that AC Delco has their QC people over there, so I'm not concerned. But then again, I'm Asian, so what the hell do I care? :)

Yeah but China isn't there yet Johnny. They are about where Japan and Korea were after WW2. But they are getting better........
