Just got word this morning that I'm heading down south for a training towards the end of next month. training will be 8am-4pm, so that leaves me a decent amount of time to kill, and a rental car at my disposal. Are there any 'hot spots' that I need to hit? Any restaurants that are a must? I'm sure they do a damn good BBQ down that way... Any members down in that neighborhood?

Check the Birmingham Barons schedule. Minor league team in a new stadium. Check out restaurants at the Summit shopping center at the intersection of I-459 and Hwy 280 - Fleming's steak house (big bucks), Cheesecake Factory (good food, great desserts if you like cheesecake), P. F. Changs (great Chinese, medium to big bucks). Also several Jim and Nick's BBQ around town.

Stay out of downtown area after normal business hours, very little there and not the safest place.

Blue Torch Fab is in Birmingham. They build some sick off road Jeeps and buggies.

flights are booked. looked into a few museums and such in the area, but everything closes at 5.
