Accelerator cable: OEM vs. Aftermarket Price

This is crazy. I need to replace my old accelerator cable and started looking around. For a new OEM cable, p/n 53006556, the price is $156.00 from ChryslerPartsDirect.    A new Omix-ADA aftermarket cable from RockAuto is like $22 and change. A $134 / 700% price difference!! I have never seen such a disparity in pricing for the same part. I like to use OEM parts whenever possible, but that is more than  insane..................

Don, I don't know what the Omix one is/will be, but very recently I replaced the one in my old Dodge pickup.

The factory ones I found were quite spendy, so with some searching on Ebay I found the ATP replacement cable, for IIRC $18 shipped.

So I got one, and installed it promptly. A quick comparo, all same same.

Within a week it was binding nearly as badly as my old, original '85 cable.

It comes thru the firewall and makes a loop, that may be why, same as the stocker did tho. My thoughts are that the plastic cable sleeve is perhaps softer, and the loop has caused  the wire part to wear into the sleeve.

Just to let you know

I am on the hunt for another old, used, factory one.

Thanks. I'm sure the factory cable is better quality than any aftermarket, but it'll take a looooong time to burn up several aftermarket cables in order to justify the cost of a new factory cable. Anyone try the Omix-ADA accelerator cable?

Manufacturers have been charging huge prices for spare/replacement parts for quite a while.  Price increases on parts do not get "noticed" like price increases for new cars.  And manufacturers have a very large, nearly captive market with the dealer networks.  That cable may very well have come from the same supplier Chrysler uses for it's OEM cable and be exactly the same quality as the OEM replacement part you would get today from Chrysler.  May also be a cheaper, lower quality "CRAP" (Chinese Replacement Auto Part aka, "CRAP").  Not many of us do the price search at the dealer and at Rock Auto, so Chrysler makes a fancy profit.  At least, that is my take.

I ordered 2 different accelerator cables this year, they both were the same and the "ball" end will not fit the stock pivot ball. They were made to fit a larger ball. So i wound up finding a couple of good working cables at the jy and sending them back.

Are you against junkyard parts?

Sometimes. For consumable parts, brake parts, and a used cable that could stick me at WOT when I don't want to be, yes, I won't use a junkyard part.

Anyhow, have been looking around and found a NOS cable (91 and 92 were unique) for $50. Still to high, but I'll take it over the "offshore" version. The picture of the Omix-ADA cable even looks different than the OEM cable.
