Hello all.

Recently, I have replaced my idiot light cluster with a cluster that includes oil pressure, ammeter, and coolant temp gauges along with a fuel gauge and the speedo. I replaced the oil pressure sending unit near the distributor and the coolant temp sensor that goes on the intake manifold under the throttle body. I have good oil pressure readings, but get nothing on the temp display. When I turn it on, it spikes all the way to the right, then settled back to 0. Any ideas on what I should be looking at?

For the record, my MJ is an 87 2.5L SporTruck with an AX4. The replacement cluster came from an 88 Pioneer with a 4.0.

Intake manifold?

I don't have access to my 2.5Ls at the moment but isn't the temp sender at the back left corner of the head, just like the 4.0L?

I replaced my temp sender when I did the gauge swap with my 2.5, that's not the right sender. It's on the back of the head with just one wire sticking out. My wire was pink in colour.

Damn. I'll take pics when I get back to my vehicle, but it was on the intake and it takes a two wire plug.

The temperature sender takes only one wire.

Edit: That must be the the intake air temp sensor that you replaced...instead of the temp sensor

The coolant temp sensor is on the right side back of the head with one wire.....

Coolant came out when I pulled the sensor, though. The IAT is on the top side of the intake mani, right? This one was on the side.

In this pic looking at the block the temp sensor is on the right side with a boot and 1 wire running to it. This is an 87 2.5. I did the cluster swap as well and it's good to go.

You know if I'm not mistaken there was a topic a while back that stated a double temp sensor on the 2.5s but initially the one to change for the cluster is on the head in the pic above shown...

I'll research it or if cruiser knows?

Thanks! I think that's what may be happening in my situation. I bought my sending units at Oreiley's and was given the right pressure sensor. I then proceeded to look for and replace whatever was most like what was given to me. I DO have the single wire one on the head, but I also have one on the manifold. I wonder if one is redundant or serves nother purpose. Maybe it's to kick on an aux fan on a/c equipped models?

Thanks for the visual. A pic is worth a thousand words! BTW, do you remember the part # of the sender ypu used?
