ftpiercecracker1
I did a little searching beforehand but couldnt find the answer i was looking for. I remember someone on here mentioning that you want to avoid Mexican made glass and use American made glass if possible, something to do with poor quality. Is this right or just BS? And the other thing, is it recommended to upgrade to the newer rubber trim? If so what do i need to do or tell the installer to bring? Cheapest rate i could find was approx $220 installed with new clips and trim, sound reasonable? That is with them coming to me, 22 miles one way. Thanks gents, FPC out. az comanches
You want the windshield trim from 94 to 01 XJ's. Quadratec has them for 52.99.

Thanks gents, FPC out. $220 installed with trim is a good price, at least compared to what I've seen. I had mine replaced in April and it was $231 with me dropping it off there. No new trim either, but they did clean it. Not sure on newer trim or quality of Mexican glass, so I won't comment on that.
dave92cherokee
As for the rubber surround just tell the glass company that you need the windshield and trim for a 99 cherokee, as for the quality of glass that's the first I've heard of a quality problem with mexican vs american glass but not to say it isn't true. Just find out if the glass company offers a warranty of some sort on the glass in case of anything like that.
danbyrambler
I wouldn't worry about the glass quality - The basic mfg process hasn't changed much inna past half century or so but the inspection/Quality control methods sure have & for the good - Ditto for cutting/bending/tempering - - - If something has gone towards the neg it's the thinner glass thickness - courtesy of our fed government's regs - - - Anyway, There'll be a logo somewhere on the windshield - usually lower onna DS or PS but could be lower center - - If it contains "Guardian" then US made & prob US made glass - If it says "ASAHI" then mfg in Mexico - Huge twin unit facility just across the border from Brownsville, TX - Asahi Optical-Japan - constructed no sooner'n the ink was dry onna NAFTA - Pretty much wiped out the whole US SouthWest flat glass market - - Anything else is prob Chinese - - If the word SOLEX is there then it's PPG & a NOS piece since PPG's been outta the aftermarket business for some time now & much longer for OEM fabricating & Ditto for Chrysler McGraw logo - - - Look through the glass after the install - from Driver seat & passenger seat - Through it, not at it - Look at the vertical lines of a building or similar object with sharp vertical borders - - Move your head around so that you scan the most used portion of the WS alla time watching the distant image borders/lines - - Any imperfection will show up as a distortion of the backgrounds imagery - - Don't worry so much about Horizontal - Unlikely a prob given an MJ WS's viewing angle & raw glass orientation during the mfg process. - - If you should find something then it's your call as to wether it's objectionable - Imperfections inna inch-inch anna half border area on the edges are common & usually within mfg spec - Central viewing area it's basically defect free, but will be up to you - acceptable or no.

ggcnash
Safelite all the way, got mine 200$ they cleaned it with new trim. The biggest reason I suggest them though is their lifetime warranty against leaks.
ftpiercecracker1
Well the dude came out, very nice, very professional sounding. Seemed like he did a good job, welcomed me to watch him work, but. . . . . i think they reinstalled the spacer blocks wrong. Instead of laying them long ways and on their side they put them long ways and flat. I will try and snap a picture to help you visualize. In their current oreintation i don't think the trim will snap back into place properly, i might have to notch the trim or try and cut the spacer blocks with my dremel. :crossfingers:
