...........researchers at the University of Hong Kong?

:huh???:  These HK researchers should look at their own government first.

Sometimes some fresh, outside eyes see things a little differently.  Still, interesting article.

Well, we did have a governor and the CEO of Healthsouth go to prison. And, possibly a few mayors and council members. Maybe they grade on a scale with a governor having a higher point value and that drove our score up.

In this case it's not true that if it weren't for Mississippi we'd be the worst. Heck, we've got a four state cushion between us and them!

Still have to believe Illinois should be No. 1 in corruption. They must have paid off the Hong Kong commies!

Why am I not surprised? I don't even know where to start. Louisiana has had convicted felons running for Governor (Edwin Edwards); Proported KKK leaders in the legislature (Edwin Edwards, and David Duke - in fact, that year the governor's ballot had a write in "none of the above" which came very close to winning);  Just convicted a bunch or legislators for dipping into their campaign funds for 'family assistants'; just convicted one of our coroners (for, amongst other things having a $75K per year "slush fund" on his AMEX for expenses on the tax payers dime); getting ready to convict another former mayor of New Orleans; and on and on.......

Somebody spoke about the article being written by folks in Hong Kong....you could be a blind man in a coal mine and still see corruption in Louisiana.

Referencing Edwin Edwards Governor's run, his campaign slogan was "Hire the Crook - It's Important"

and he won.......really

So this is based on convictions for violating corruption laws. I wonder if this is because these states have a higher rate of corruption or if they have a higher rate of convictions for corruption violations?

Interesting idea! Do these states have better investigators or worse politicians? Another thought - are there actually better and worse politicians or are they all equally sleazy?

I have no idea but it could be that they are actually harder on corruption and it looks bad when you view it by only looking at convictions. Or they could just be full of crooks.

Good point. Some of them may have made the list due to an aggressive no tolerance stance...but not all of them I think. Some other states that may turn a blind eye to corruption ( I am thinking Massachusetts as a possible example) would not be on the list at all.
