Source For New Interior Pieces?

Recommended Posts

Hello all.

Does anyone know who sells new interior pieces for our vehicles? I'm specifically looking for a new dash pad in tan for my MJ. I wouldnt mind some new trim for my ZJ too. Thanks in advance, everyone!

you might be able to dress it up with a carpeted dash cover.  I assume they still make 'em.   :dunno:   been rockin' one in the 88 for years now.  :D  a word of note, I specified to them that the hole for the glovebox lock remain uncut (after the first one came to me crooked).

I wouldn't call it easy either.  Best with 2 people.  Even if you find one with no cracks to the outside, the inner plastic structure can be pretty jacked up.  I've pulled a bunch and if it didn't get ruined from banging the brittle outside against something and causing a hole or crack, the understructure cracked as the last few fasteners were being removed due to the unsupported weight.  The area behind the glove box and the cubby below the glove box and behind the radio/HVAC controls tend to break.

Again, that can probably be avoided with an extra set of hands to help remove the so it's not hanging unsupported or banging into anything being removed.

I guess I should elaborate.

Easy, maybe after a few. Hard, not at all.

I would consider the dash to be something that isn't as difficult or technical as it is time consuming to those who have never done one. There isn't any real difficult hardware to reach or things to overcome, just a lot of little steps to remember. I can have a dash out in about a half hour with the right tools. I have a good number of them under my belt however.

Yella, I've never ran into the delicate portion of what you are talking about. Maybe it's a climate thing. Obviously care is needed to make sure nothing damages the pad in removal, but that's about all I could say for difficulty.

I'd expect you'd break some stuff if you pulled the 15mm bolts at the sides first, while the thing was still bolted to the firewall. I did mine, after reading a few good writeups. Took me about an hour to pull it out by myself, and that was outside at -20°C/-4F back in Februrary. Didn't break anything, although I could tell things were pretty brittle at that temperature.
