Project Comanche Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 87 comanche need help with headliner. Fabric and foam padding is in good shape, actual cardboard of structure of headliner sags and needs to be secured to underside of roof. How have you gone about doing this? Spray glue? Tabs/brackets?
Jeep Driver Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 There is someone in NC that is doing reproductions of the MJ headliner....complete with form. I'll see if I can find him....or you can look.
Jeep Driver Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 He used to advertise on CL, don't see him now. Might look for something close and trim to fit http://charlotte.craigslist.org/pts/4374839549.html Or, if it were me and I had no other options......I'd pull it out, clean it, try to return it to its original shape, then fiberglass it.......2 layers..........then new foam and new headliner.
HOrnbrod Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 This the guy? http://comancheclub.com/topic/36837-smsheadliner-discounts/
AMCJeepMJ Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 That's the guy I got mine from. My final headliner (third one after his working out some fitment issues) fit beautifully and looked awesome until I tried to put a large picture frame behind the seat and put a gash in it.
HOrnbrod Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Ouch! I hate when something like happens. We've all done similar.......
BootsNTrucks Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 What I did was get some of that foil bubble wrap stuff and contact cement it to the roof of the truck and the back panel. Once it dried I contact cemented fabric over the top so the glare didn't drive me crazy. Probably works better than the actual headliner.
Project Comanche Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 Mine looks fine, it's just the whole headliner sags(not just the fabric sagging from the foam). How can I secure the headliner to the underside of the roof?
BootsNTrucks Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Alright here are the pictures. Sadly no pictures available of the mossy oak breakup fabric we put over it. Mine looks fine, it's just the whole headliner sags(not just the fabric sagging from the foam). How can I secure the headliner to the underside of the roof? roll on contact cement. not the spray, i already made that mistake. Go to your local Home Depot and pick up a jar of it and a small roller and some brushes
88whitemanche Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Mine looks fine, it's just the whole headliner sags(not just the fabric sagging from the foam). How can I secure the headliner to the underside of the roof? Felpro works
HOrnbrod Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Mine looks fine, it's just the whole headliner sags(not just the fabric sagging from the foam). How can I secure the headliner to the underside of the roof? Felpro works You mean Velcro I assume?
88whitemanche Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Oooops lol yes Velcro works I used it on mine from SMS headliners...mine for some reason in the middle pops down a bit and didn't have the factory pcs to hold down by the back window
Jeep Driver Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I did the headliner in our XJ last summer, cost me a $10 blanket at the walmart. The lines you see in the image is not seen in real life.
dankicksass Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I don't even have a headliner, I'm fully jealous of anyone who even has one that's falling down. I'll make or buy one eventually, that's a tomorrow problem.
Project Comanche Posted March 27, 2014 Author Posted March 27, 2014 I realize now that what I need is sunvisors and the retaining clip. The retainer is what will hold the headliner the best where I need it. Does anyone knowwhere I can get a complete set or if cherokee ones will work interchangably? if so certain years?
AMCJeepMJ Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Cherokee ones worked for me. Be aware of two legnths of sunvisors.
Project Comanche Posted March 28, 2014 Author Posted March 28, 2014 Two lengths? Some work some don't? Some are better than others? I have a list of parts to scrounge for at the wrecking yard in the next week or so
