GirsMJ86
Personally, I had one and never used it. I just don't think the phone is needed in the vehicle. I had it because it was a Kenwood headunit, with built in HD receiver, that I got on sale.

GirsMJ86
It was good. Sound was clear, and the HD radio feature was really nice. Had great range on radio reception to boot. The only thing I hated was the blinding blue lights of the buttons and display, and I never really could get use to the button layout. It had some multi-directional dial to move around the menus, felt cheap. My favorite headunit I've had got stolen, if I could find a good one of it used I would trade my current Sony for it. It was an Xplod, had changeable backlight colors, and one of the best button layouts I've come across. Although I'd hate to give up the functionality of my current Sony, it has a usb port and SD card slot on the front along with the cd. Once again, I just wish the lights were not blue. The Xplods had/have good sound as well. Really though I think just about anything would sound good in an MJ, such a small space.
Spectormj
the weird thing in my mj is my head unit....its a Ford premium sound system with a Tape deck so xplod speakers/ head unit or diff combo?
GirsMJ86
Pure Xplod is fine, that's what my setup was with my old Xplod headunit. Had the speakers with the tweeter on them, they fit just fine behind the door panels. My current setup is a Sony headunit with Kenwood speakers, it's what was in it when I bought the truck. Sounds good but I liked the separate tweeters of the Xplods. My cousin loves his Alpine speakers, but he runs all kinds of power in his truck and has a lot more room (crewcab Ram) so he runs the component speakers along with amp and subs. He also gets good discounts because of his DJ business.
HOrnbrod
I was lucky enough to find a rare nos cd player for my truck part# 82300393 sounds great . I converted one of my trucks to power windows and put tweeters in the holes where the cranks went through originally . The dash speakers are kinda tricky to install unless you have the bracketry. I went and bought my speakers on eBay 51/4 cerwin Vegas and 4x6 kickers Yes, that was one of the part numbers for the three models produced. Do you have any pics of it? HOrnbrod
Thanks for sending the pics Strokermjcomanche. Now this is the class way to upgrade your stock cassette player; an uber-rare factory CD player. I looked for years and never could find. Adam not only found one, but it was a NOS unit. Sure looks good in there. Since I couldn't find one, I settled for a single DIN CD player from a Mitsubishi since Chrysler and Mitsu were in bed together at the time. I sure like the Mopar factory CD unit better. I'm jealous............

GirsMJ86
That factory CD player is cool, I'd trade my XJ control center for that. lol Anyways, OT, Xplods are pretty cheap. They aren't bottom of the barrel, but they are some of the cheapest of the good quality speakers out there. Same for the headunits, of which they have all different types from $100 budget to several hundred with tons of features.
Strokermjcomanche
Thanks for the comments Hornbrod and Girsmj86 like how you kept the factory look Hornbrod . I wanna say looking through the instructions Mitsubishi is written / mentioned somewhere in there. I'll have to double-check
87comanche6994
Unless things have changed, I'd stay away from crutchfield when it comes to buying. They've never been the best price, kind of high in my experiences. +1 but they have a great site for finding what you need and then sourcing elsewhere
