Headlight Upgrade Arb M002 Vs Putco 230004Hw, Your Opinion?

Recommended Posts

What opinion do you guys have for both the  ARB M002 upgrade vs the  putco 230004HW I'm planning an upgrade on my factory sealed beams but have read terrible reviews for the putco setup relays, where as the ARB is much more expensive but haven't read any negative reviews,,,or hardly any reviews for that matter, this will be used for my daily driven 89 comanche.

If I had the time, I would have made my own. It's really not all that complicated. I used the Putco Harness because it is stupid cheap, and the only real thing I heard from anyone was that the relays are cheaply made and the headlight connectors may melt if you use too much of a bulb...

The $20 was almost a non issue. The forums told me I can get quality relays to replace the cheap ones out of a Honda or Toyota in the junkyard, and if I ever melt a connector, I can just cut off the plastic one and replace it with a ceramic job. I don't plan on running ungodly wattage bulbs though, so I don't see that happening.

Putco and forget it.

Made my own extra harness following this write-up because I didn't want to wait for the Putco or others to ship. It's a little hard to follow sometimes, as he's doing everything in metric and then converting, but it's not too hard to figure it out. Also, he recommends 10-gauge wire, which is definitely overkill for stock headlights. You'd get away with 14 gauge for the wires, which is what the putco uses (I believe from a couple reviews... have never seen the putco harness). Personally, I went with 10 but this is coming from a position where my stock headlight wiring set itself on fire, so paranoia kinda took control.

Also, I drew up a circuit diagram to help me out that I can post if you want it. Just not sure where I put it.
