Worth $50 Bucks?

Got this axle from a local Jeep guy for $50 bucks. 3.73 HP open. Before I bought it, I was thinking to buy it, keep it in stock for future possible builds, then I seen it in person and thought maybe not...seems that it is a disconnect housing (already stronger than a non disconnect) I thought OK cool, the D30 housing in the 88 is a disconnect. All cool till I see the track bar mount cast in place never seen that before. So I guess my plan now is to cut the Cs off the axle so I can cut around the truss easier, cut it off (truss) save it in stock for the future. I can easily weld pieces to complete the truss for a non disconnect axle. And the steering? anybody got any idea what it came off of and would it be an upgrade to either of my MJs if I chose to run it?

And last of all, he had these in his junk pile, I asked about them, he said I could have them...

Anybody know anything about them? manufacture etc...I'm pretty sure they are adjustable as evidenced by the grease zerk on the body of the arm, can't really tell for sure if adjustable, they been sitting in the weather and won't twist to adjust. Got PB Blaster on them trying to loosen them up.

So I guess I'm gonna cut the housing up, and save the truss for possible future builds, don't know about the steering setup, R&R the control arms and run them on the Chief, yeah I know they will bind at max droop, guess I'll have to clearance the lower spring mount...but I doubt that I'll run into many full droop situations very often anyways.

To add to what the dog says...it is definitely a YJ diff.. ...you need to look for the bracket that is supplied with YJ SOA kits...It was an L shaped bracket that would defiantly bolt up and let you use it.

To me it looks like a beefy front end that someone put a lot of thought and labor into.....Definitely worth the $50 (the CA's are an added bonus)  :clapping:

Ok, YJ housing.

Went to TNT Customs website, even a conservative estimate without welding, this axle would start at over $400 in parts alone...without the housing.

Now about the axle side track bar mount, anybody got a pic of the needed missing L bracket? If it wasn't for the funky track bar mount, I might think about keeping it...

or cut the truss, mounts off use at a later date. Any way I look at it, if I use the axle, it has to be regeared.

The thing is kind of an oxy-moron, white elephant. A trussed 30 really? to run 35s, to constantly break axles and u joints, or I could build it so

I can have long travel for high speeds and jumps...

Well, it's obviosly not a normal YJ SOA conversion, but looks to be a coil spring conversion.  When the TJ's first came out and were getting rave reviews, there were a few outfits that offered kits to convert YJ's coils.  IIRC, Superlift, Black Diamond & Pro Comp were a few, but a google image search of those names doesn't come back with bracketry like that.  But that's my guess of your find.
