coyote kid
Could a blown manifold gasket cause rapid overheating like in 5 minutes ?

jimoshel
I don't see how it could. However being a Jeep I wouldn't rule it out. A stuck thermostat could do it.
Blaine
:agree: also could be clogged radiator and/or hoses, blown head gasket. hard to tell without proper diagnosis. i know when my head gasket went i couldnt keep my truck running for 5 minutes either, started blowing out steam and coolant. carnuck
IIRC the 2.5L has a water passage? If so, the water/antifreeze can be sucked into the motor.
big66440
I would do a block test to rule out the head gasket, you can rent the kit at vatozone and it's very easy to do, also just because a water pump is not leaking doesn't mean it's good I've pulled water pumps off cars were the impeller is so rusted and far gone it looked like a ninja star and wouldn't circulate water anymore. Take a hard look here.... my wife is driving a cherry 2000 XJ that i bought for $700 cash......Original owner had an assessment from their mechanic of a blown rear end and blown head gasket....$3800 in repairs......I drove it home......replaced the 2 rear axle seals......and the "ninja" water pump.......she drives it to this day.....one of the most powerful 4L i have ever driven
