Mattwheels
Alright so I've gotten my 89 MJ pretty much stripped, engine removed, interior stripped down to just the heater box. So my MJ is a 4.0 Auto 4x4, My parts car is a 91 4.0 XJ Manual 2x4. I've already purchased a 4x4 Manual transmission. My plan is to change everything I can from the 91XJ to my MJ, Engine, Wire harness, Dash(its in better condition) Doors, hood fenders etc So my questions start off My MJ Speedometer was by wire from the Transfer case, The 91 doesn't have that, and it seems its electronic? By using the Wire harness will it eliminate the need for the wire to the TC, and can I just leave that hole open? Anyone have any idea if the Manual and Automatic firewalls are the same? I noticed there are a couple holes near where the Master Cylinder go just havent found someone say they used it for that. Hm Thought I had more questions, Anyone have any advice on this kind of swap? Previous experiences?
TheDirtyJeep401
The spedo is electronic driven, not cable driven. The firewall should be the same. The only year that I know they had different was 86.
Mattwheels
Alright another question So today I pulled out the Cherokee engine from my parts jeep, which is a 2wd 91 cherokee manual , and there are some connections on the transmission that arent on my ax15 4wd from what looks like a YJ. There seem to be 2 connections on the 2wd and only 1 on the 4wd, does anyone know what the connections are on the 2wd or have a diagram? Anyone ever rebuild a ax-15? how hard is it? Getting close to a running comanche! Just have to rebuild the tranny, hook the transfer case up and drop the engine in.

gogmorgo
I believe (but don't know for certain) that on a 2wd, the speedometer gear is on the tranny, but on the transfer case for a 4x4.
