xjrev10
I have a internal slave AX15 on the shelf. I found a bell housing off of a 2000 XJ off a NV3550 that is obviously external slave. If I bought it, would it work on my trans to successfully convert my trans to a external slave? Seems obvious to me there is no reason why but I've never dug this deep into AX15 tech. Pete M
I doubt the bellhousing from a 3550 will bolt to an AX-15. just seems to... convenient. :dunno:
Geonovast
I was going to agree with Pete, but stumbled on this. Seems there's evidence it will. May be worth looking into, I can't say for sure without trying myself, and wouldn't base an answer off of one source. http://highdesertoff-road.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=

xjrev10
neat! I say try it and tell us how it goes :D Seller claims it does. If it does, will it successfully convert the trans to external slave? He wants $150. I'd offer maybe $100.

Pete M
that's a ton of money for an empty bellhousing  i converted my 90 using $35 worth of junkyard parts.
onlyinajeep726
It's the same bell housing. They are swappable.

I'm going to email and see what he says. Who knows if it even exists. Could anyone help with a parts list?
onlyinajeep726
You'll need the shift fork and its retaining clip, throwout bearing, the input shaft plate (the thing that the throwout bearing slides back and forth on), an external slave cylinder (or pre-filled/pre-bled master and slave system) and of course a new clutch kit (LuK is what I'd highly recommend). All of this can be bought on RockAuto.com IIRC. mnkyboy
The throw out bearing retainer can cost more then the bellhousing unless you stumble across one at the junk yard. Its usually cheaper to find an external slave ax15 then buy everything needed to convert one.
xjrev10
I bought it. He is shipping it too me. I have done business with this guy before. He's sending the shift fork too.

Looks like I'm going to have a bucks into this..
onlyinajeep726
Yep, '94 and newer. I got just the trans. for $175 found on Craigslist, had to eBay a bellhousing and shift fork for another $150 + shipping. Got a new, pre-filled master and slave hydraulic system for another $100+ (RockAuto), LuK clutch kit for another $90+ (RockAuto), and RedLine MT-90 API GL-4 gear oil for another $65 (Amazon.com). Yes, it gets costly, but it's worth it when you're said and done.
