As the tittle says, I'm looking on changin my radiator bottle, this would be the 2nd time that I've done this, but I'm wondering which other bottle would fit?

I'm driving an 86 manche, and I had some problems with the coolant boiling out from the reaervoir, so I did some research and find out about the cap from napa, but it doesnt fit ! Haha

So I'm looking now for a better/beefier/more durable bottle, and if I could find it from the JY

Don't get confused. An '86 doesn't use the "closed" system with the pressurized bottle. Your plastic bottle is a conventional overflow recovery bottle, and you can use anything -- even an old milk jug in a pinch.

Humm interesting, then why the coolant boils in there?

What engine do you have, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder or 2.8-liter V-6?

 

Are you by any chance filling the coolant bottle when it's cold? If so, that would explain it. Coolant expands when it gets hot. On the "open" systems, when the coolant expands it gets forced out through the radiator cap and captured in the overflow bottle. The radiator car has a check valve built into it that allows this coolant to be sucked back into the radiator as the system cools off.

 

You don't need much coolant at all in the bottle when cold. Fill it not more than 1/3 full. If you fill it all the way, then the coolant from the radiator has no place to go when it expands, so it'll force coolant out of the recovery bottle.

I have the 2.5, and if I can remember correctly, should be around 1/2 to 2/3.

Humm that might answer that, so ur saying its "normal" for that to happen?

Not normal for coolant to bubble out, but also not normal to overfill the bottle. There's a tube that connects the bottle to the radiator filler neck. There only needs to be enough coolant in the bottle when cold to cover the inlet from that tube to the bottle.

 

If you fill it 2/3 full when cold, then I would expect it to burp at you.

It's new? Why not see if you can return it. If not, put it on the classifieds here. It's probably for a Renix 4.0L, and there's plenty of us who own those.

Might as well, ir i can just save it for the near future, cuz I'm planning a 2.5 to 4.0 swap.

If you indeed have the pressurized bottle and have purchased the Volvo cap, be advised that you must push down a bit on the cap before it grabs the threads on the neck.

 

Also, most parts stores warranty the pressure bottle as lifetime.

I have a '90 MJ with the 4.0.  The coolant bottle has a couple hairline cracks at the top (sorry, no pic) and it's leaking.  Googled a replacement and found several on eBay.

After narrowing the search and reading the fine print, I read "Does not include Low Fluid Sensor".  Does the latter reside in the bottle?

Thanks for the reply Cruiser ... I guess you pay for the lifetime guarantee, as NAPAonline.com's price is about $10 more.

It seals better, has a lower profile, and holds higher pressure. Fact is, the standard replacement caps are just garbage.

i replaced mine with a mid 90's Mopar bottle.  It has a different shape but a real radiator cap.  All that is required is to remove 2 screws and the OEM bracket, drill 2 holes in the firewall and mount the new bottle directly to the firewall.  Wrecking yard price was about 5 bucks....
