92tanMJ
Well long story short, I don't know what I was thinking but I took my old bed to the scrap yard (too far gone to fix) but I forget to remove the lower tailgate hinge mount-thingy. And as soon as I got back home I remember..of course ef me right? Lol but I said I was going to make it short so does anyone know where I can pick up a set of them? Or can I use any hinges off a differnent truck? Or should I just make a classified posting? This is what I'm looking for, but one for an MJ: http://www.stylintrucks.com/parts/replacement_oe_replacement_tailgate_hinge/1104000029_REPTA68562.aspx But if any of you are wondering the 6' bed weight in 220 lbs I got $21 bucks for it lol which I will now spend, plus some, probably to pick up new hinges...my grandpa always said, you pay extra for stupidity. Thanks in advance, Zack
Oddmodman
You're lucky for that much. Here in Alaska because of shipping, steel isn't worth hardly anything. I took 760 lbs to the yard and got $26, and it was close to 20 miles one way. I spent about half that just getting the load there and driving home. I don't know how I managed to pull off that rookie mistake.. It's like, 50% tech and 50% pub material. I am wondering where to get a replacement set myself since mine are rusted. I swear I posted in pub last night..maybe it got moved. Who knows, I posted it last night on my phone. I wonder if theyre the same as the ones on a s10 or ranger? i thought i had a few extra sets but i could only locate one single hinge. and one top catch. if interested I'm about 3 hours west of you in IN. i have a few sets of the tailgate side to the hinge if you needed it... I only need the very bottom hinges, like what the tailgate pivots on. If you would be will to ship them I would love to take them off your hands...otherwise its not worth the drive, ya know. Maybe I will just suck it up and get one of those nets thingy. One of these: http://www.pepboys.com/product/details/8189240/00240/
krustyballer16
There's no comanches in any local jys? Whenever I go I try to get everything Cmanche specific, whether I need it or not. And I only have one side of the pivot...not the pair.

You gott remember I'm in Ohio. lol Trucks that are just a little bit rusty and you other guys won't touch are like gold here. lol which also mean there isnt much be slim picking at the junk yard, and honestly I don't know of any you-pull-it around here anymore..just the crappy ones where they pull it for you. GirsMJ86
I don't have my rig in front of me to go look at how they attach, but couldn't you just get some meant for another truck and bolt them up? I'd imagine some meant for an 80's Dakota, S-10, or Ranger would work. I mean they are an AMC product, I bet they are the same part that was used on one of those trucks, I'd wager the S-10 but who knows and it may have changed through the years as well, especially once Chrysler got a hold of them. There are a few you-pull-its up here towards central Ohio, but I pretty much stripped every MJ in them (a total of about 3) a few years back. We are in one of the worst states for getting parts for these trucks that is for sure, and the ones I pulled stuff from have all probably been crushed by now I'm sure. What killed me was the Chevy dealer down the street from me got one in back during cash for clunkers and had it sitting on the very top of the dumpster with their clunkers banner on the side, if it wasn't right on the curb of a busy state route I would have stripped every MJ specific part off it in the middle of the night. The thing looked clean too is the real killer...

The thing looked clean too is the real killer... It's just one of these parts (This is NOT an MJ specific one, just for reference.) Theyre at the very bottom, I know its how Ford's tailgates hinge. I just don't have mine any more to see what works and doesnt size ways to take with me to the autoparts stores to compare them. Honestly I probably still would have picked it clean regardless of where it was. ALL of those parts were just wasted. Cash for clunkers was a huge pile of horse crap. 92tanMJ
Okay, so I was looking at my tailgate today and I relized that I was posting pictures of the wrong thing. I was posting pictures of the hinges on the tailgate side. This is what the bed hinges look like:
GirsMJ86
Those are still listed in that link at the top. Most trucks just use one of them that look like that on the side the gate pulls up and off and the other side is a circle. I'm sure something for another truck would work. krustyballer16
Make your own. Get a piece of 1 inch tubing or whatever size it is, cut the sides off and weld in pieces so the two sides are flat and weld that to a piece with a hole in it. Or if you can't weld get somebody to. Show them a picture and it shouldnt take more than 20 minutes. That's what I would do if I lost mine.
92tanMJ
Well this is what happens when PO switches the tailgate's hinges, rounds out the bolts and then you snap one off. :wall: Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found So when you get it all fixed you celebrate..go hit some balls and have a beer with the old man. lol Image Not Found
Eagle
I was in an Advanced Auto a couple of hours ago and I saw a set of body-side tailgate hinges in the "HELP!" aisle that looked like they could be adapted to work. They were for a Chevy. There are probably others listed in the catalog.
