Her Favorite Color Is Chrome

If you want to keep it in good shape, you need to be preemptive. Yank out the carpet (as nicely as you can if it's in good shape and you want to reuse) and por-15 everything, maybe adding some removable drainage plugs in the lowest spots on each side like Wranglers. Ditching the flare retainer brackets and replacing with stainless nuts/bolts/washers after fixing any problem areas you find behind the flares is another good idea (or at least one I live by on my MJs). If you have a relatively rust free MJ, going to extremes is really about the only way to prevent it from rusting out badly, unless you want to take that new-to-you rig and move straight to a better climate.

The one nice thing though about it being an '86 is that I've found they tend to be the least cancerous. My first '86 had only very minor rust (came from NJ as well), pinholes and such with solid floors. My current one has always been in Ohio AFAIK and it only is just starting to show signs of cancer around the flares.

First off welcome to the madness, I'm not a huge chrome fan myself when it comes to these trucks, but its certainly different, which theres nothing wrong with that,

if moore1031 sells you his driver side chrome mirror, I have a passenger side chrome mirror if youre interested,

Thanks for the welcoming. I have a NOS passenger side. I need a NOS drivers side....I am probably going to buy a non NOS pair to put in until I can find the drivers side I need.

Rolls bars from the 80's are pretty much universal.  I've gotten 2 off craigslist and will install which ever one fits better.  You could probably even find a bull bar from an XJ too.  I love craigslist.  There's so much random crap on there.  I traded an old computer for a set of cepek off road lights.

Just realized I read that wrong... I would be interested in buying your passenger and Moores drivers.

Remember I texted you? My chrome one is the passenger side with the adjuster, I have a grey driver side. Sorry about getting the info wrong at first.

Would you be interested in my set for $60 shipped? I know its not exactly what you are looking for, but I'm trying to reduce my parts pile.

If you are looking for chrome Comanche drip rails - do not pass up on black ones!  you can take the black color off and will have chrome underneath the black stuff!  Stay away from the big mirrors as pictured on the Ebay truck.  The doors need to have a special reenforcement inside the door.  You can find chrome power and standard mirrors on the Cherokee rather frequently.  If you are thinking about replacing the engine in an 86, consider getting a 3.4 litre chevy 60 degree V6 to replace the 2.8 v6 often found.  The 3.4 engine is much improved and gives better mileage than the old 2.8 or even the 4.0 6 cylinder.  You can also add an under the hood light from some of the XJ's that can be nice when you need to check the engine out in the dark.  Think they come with a 15/20 foot coiled up extension so you can move the light around the Jeep.

One other thing.  When you see a nice truck on Ebay will all the good pictures - copy and save the image to your computer.  I have failed to do this on several MJ's on Ebay and kick myself when I try, for example, to see how the jack and tools are supposed to be stored from the factory.  I had all the correct stuff in my truck when it was stolen.  When I recovered the truck, that stuff was gone.  So I have to do it again and get fresh pictures!
