Got Some Stuff Powdercoated Today!!

I had the guys at work powdercoat 2 sets of my turbine wheels and my factory roll bar...

 

after sand blasting thursday night. (there are 7 on the skid, the 8th was still in the booth.)

 

 

going back to work this morning for powder. (left the roll bar there overnight)

 

how they came out.. left one is a light chocolatey color, the right is a metallic silver. (i have had another set of rims done in this same color for a couple months now too)

 

chocolatey...mmmmmmm.

To me, the classic "turbine" 10-spoke Jeep wheels are the best looking wheels Jeep ever produced. The bright spokes and outer machined rim contrasting with the darker silver/gray inserts between the spokes is what they should look like, especially with the stock bright/black caps. Powder coating them to a single overall color just ruins the wheel. No way would I ever do this.

 

Just my opinion, and not trying to offend. As always, all that really matters is what you like.  :thumbsup:

I agree with your hornbrod that that original color scheme looks the best but finding an original set that looks good is about impossible around here. And trying to mask off the inner spokes and outter to get the two different colors is hard and time consuming. Getting the lines straight and everything isn't a guarantee and neither is the two colors coming out right. Both powders have to be right so the first doesn't chemically react different when it's been baked twice as long for the second color. It will be something I will try eventually but for now the solid silver is fine.

Makes me emphatically want to get my 10-spokers redone. Surprisingly digging the chocolate color; looks almost good enough to eat!

i want to find 2 or 3 more sets of turbines and a couple more roll bars and try out some more colors.  the chocolate color, on the sample looked more of a greyish blue green (hard to explain) and i kind of lliked that but when it came out the chocolate color, i LOVED it. they will be going on a bright blue metal flaked cherokee.

Got the roll bar mounted over the weekend and lights mounted.

 

had to make my own mounting brackets and backing plates for the wheel wells

Wow! the roll bar looks great sir. My apologies for not being able to scrounge out the brackets I have ( around here somewhere) to get photos of them for you.

For what it is worth your homemade front brackets look better designed and executed than the factory ones I was finally able to locate.

Sorry for the delay with the info you needed still have not been back to the painters (where the rear plates are) Your powercoated bar almost makes me wish I had not sprayed mine

(and bumpers, side bars, bed side top rail plates with u-pol raptor. It really looks sharp dude.

Thanks. and its ok i just wanted a general idea of what the brackets were. but after looking under there i figured it out. when i take the bed off again for further work or down the road a little ways for other work i think i will make better looking brackets and make them a little cleaner (even though nobody will see them, they could be better) and i will have them powdercoated too instead of rattle canned as they are now. and yes being able to get everything powdercoated for Free is NICE! i would like to find another roll bar and do it in satin black just to see how it looks. and my bumpers will be powdered too and when i steal your design for bed rail covers they will be powdered too. ha. and pretty much anything else metal that i can think of underneath and under the hood will be done also.

I would give my left arm (or insert another three letter appendage here) to get free powder coating. We have 2 companies that do our machine parts here at work that are local in Denver.

While the do fantastic work (textures etc. included) The cost is not cheap by any means. Frankly I never even considered it a viable option till I saw how nice your stuff looks. If I have any problem with how the raptor stuff holds up on my stuff I may have to bite the bullet have them all sandblasted back to bare metal and cough up the big bux. Hell I am having my drip rails and all the tailgate hardware done and even those little items are not chump change. You might want to make drawings or templates for your roll bar front brackets if anyone else has the problem I had in locating them. In the event said member did not have the fab skills or equipment, based on your photos I am certain you could sell them especially powdercoated.

Ok, I lied the powdercoat isn't quite free. I buy the guys a little ceasars pizza for lunch. So it's like $8 for the big stuff but the little stuff I can throw in with the stuff we weld if they are slow and it's the same color as what I want. and i sandblast my own stuff at work to save the guys time and stuff. And the brackets were pretty easy to figure out. Just put pieces of angle up there and tacked them together then marked the holes. They need work cuz the drivers side is REALLY hard to get the top bolts in cuz of the gas tank. But I will I take better pictures next time I have them off. and i rolled the fenderwell backing plates at work too. Comes in handy working at a fab shop

the tailgate hardware was the first bunch of stuff i had powdercoated. even before i had a bed! ha.

 

because when i got my truck it looked like this...

 

 

it had that sweet wooden flat bed on it, that if I'm not mistaken, came as a factory option in '91. :rotf:

 

but even being powdercoated, it didnt really last there on the tailgate. no matter what you do to it its gonna wear off being opened and closed so roughly that much. but when the truck is closer to being done ill have it all redone. (and i know the primer is getting bad. it will be redone in a couple months. just needed something to get me by and that didnt look as bad as rust!)
