jpdriver1
what's the largest amp alternator anyone has installed in their trucks ---- saw the write up on the 135 A, thinking about the 150 A from the "98 grand 5.2L -- any and all info welcomed -- thanks
GirsMJ86
I've seen 200 and 300 amp ones from Powermaster that say they are direct fit for the 4.0L.

Oddmodman
I'm curious. The bigger amperage alt. you use, does it pull more power to turn? In other words, like a stock fan, do you lose a bit of power?
dave92cherokee
I wired in a 160A from a durango in my old 92 cherokee. When upgrading the alt don't forget to upgrade the power cables as well to handle the higher output.

azdiesel
I was just offered a new delco alternator for $89.00 , 200 amp with single wire output. Great price if you can fit it. Copper state alternator in Phoenix. I was in process of rebuilding my 2.1 diesel alternator when i ran across these new alternators. it wouldn't mount easily to my 2.1 Renault diesel easily. Worth a try!
mvusse
Unless you're running a few thousands watts of audio system (bed full of speakers was popular around here 20 years ago), or are building an offroad rig with winch and lots of lights, there's nothing a stock alternator wouldn't be able to handle. HOrnbrod
You don't need a bed full of speakers or an offroad rig with winch and lots of lights to have need for a higher capacity alternator. The factory electrical charging system system and wiring system was designed to handle the original equipment load barely adequately, with very little wiggle room for load expansion. When you add more load like H4 headlamps, H4 fog lamps, dual electric fans, power accessories like windows/seats/etc. the total load adds up quickly especially when running an a cold rainy night with everything going full blast. The OEM 60, 75, or 90 amp charging system ain't going to handle it. So a larger alternator is needed, but just as important the weak factory mains cables and feeder circuits to high amp devices like lighting has to be upgraded too. Crash
I believe that there are some Delco style CS-130's with 130+amp output that will fit directly. If you AC doesn't work/ you want to ditch it, I recommend an alt relocation. Not sure if he is on here. But a member over at Naxja, 5-90 makes awesome upgraded cables. Yes, if you have the know how, they are easy to make, but he does not charge much more than what it costs to DIY.

Crash
Just found this while browsing my old dakota forum.. Decent amount of money, but more power than you will ever need. http://www.dakota-durango.com/forum/showthread.php?t=197378 It's in the first post.
