Echostrike Posted June 10, 2013 Share Posted June 10, 2013 All- I just got my new track bar from rock auto, and I went under the truck last night to scope out installation--and could not understand how it is removed at the axle side? The photo in the manual I have states there is a bolt with a nut on the end, but I have no idea how to get to the nut, as it looks blocked in by a welded backet. On this note, the bed proportioning valve in the back has a similar circumstance with a bolt going up into the frame, with an inaccesible nut attached to the end. All help appreciated. I just loosened the bolt and reinstall the bolt with no problems...some guys usually cut that cover when they drill a bigger hole for a bigger bolt and add a nut there Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Yeah I've seen this tab on some of "bleepinjeep"'s videos, but I don't see it on mine...could not be looking hard enough. Hopefully I can just remove the bolt, without bothering about the nut. Anyone take off there height valve in the back? theres two bolts vertically into the underside of the frame, and one has a nut--how'd you remove it? ohhhhh Jeep! jimoshel Posted June 10, 2013 Share Posted June 10, 2013 I just checked. The '86 does not have any way to access the rear nut. The '87 up has the nut-tab thing. Just try to remove the bolt. If it turns without coming out you're screwed. You will have to cut a hole in the brace so you can reach the nut with a wrench. 1986 track bar mount D*mn PB! ftpiercecracker1 Posted June 11, 2013 Share Posted June 11, 2013 Jimoshel, On my 90 i replaced the original "tabbed" nut with a standard, bad move on my part because it does make it much more difficult to take the bolt in and out, but it is still possible to get a open ended wrench in there to hold the nut still. jimoshel Posted June 16, 2013 Share Posted June 16, 2013 Was out removing front end parts from a '86XJ. Broke a nut loose with a 1/2 inch ratchet and then unscrewed the nut off with my fingers. While unscrewing it the thought hit me. Bet the guys, and gals, in the rust belt can't do this. 'nuff said. While under there I noticed there is a narrow gap above the bottom of the torque mounting bracket. If some one was unfortunate to have the weldnut come loose on them, there is enough room to slide a screw driver or chisel, something wedge shaped thru this slot and jamb it between the nut and bottom of the mount. By cutting the slot out enough a guy could slip a box end wrench in there and hold the nut. Would also work when re-installing the bolt. This slot is on the inside side of the mount. I really thought it would be more difficult to remove, but it came out with little fuss and a BFH. Now, the steering stabilizer....thats a different story.
