Rubicon Shocks On An Mj?

Has anyone found a use for 2012-2013 Jeep Rubicon shocks take-offs on their lifted or un-lifted MJs?

 

I see them on CL, essentially brand new for like $50, for all four corners!

 

Front uncompressed/compressed 22.75/15 inches.

 

Rear 23.25/11.5 inches

 

Just curious because they have correct ends for front/back and are probably decent grade of shocks that are spec'd for an OEM Rubi

Well, correct ends assuming you could press the bar pins out of the rear shocks and into the fronts...

For a  2" - 3" lifted MJ, the ideal shock travel using Bilsteins or OMEs is 14.98 - 24.61" (Front) and 15.6"-25.8" (Rear). So I'd say the fronts are fine, the rears maybe a tad short.

I was going to run them on an XJ I had with 2.5" of lift, and they were too short up front. Not near enough down travel.

So, sounds like they'd be alright up front, running close to stock or 1.5" of lift, and not long enough for the rear (of an MJ).

I have regular JK shocks on my MJ. They were about 1 inch longer total than the OEM MJ shocks. That worked out fine for me going from 2wd to 4wd, though I think I could have used a little more length in the back. But they ride good for being free take offs and I have no complaints with them otherwise. As was stated the bar pin for the rear top was removed and installed in the front lower to make them work.

I just installed a set in the front of my comanche with 2 inch lift and they do seem a tad short.  I also installed JKS bar pin eliminator kit which adds a bit of length.  I ran these this way on an 89 Cherokee I had with 3 inch lift and never has a problem.

These shocks would work fine on my 88, with original springs and leafs? This could be an alternative to replacing springs,not interested in any lift,rear springs are probably sagged,front maybe not? Where do you find them for free?

Not free, but listed for $50 on Phoenix CraigsList a couple of days ago, but I see them all the time here listed...sometimes with springs or just the shocks alone for around $100.

Mine were free because I work at a Jeep dealer that does lift kits on wrangler. They basically throw away the leftover stock suspension parts.

Just can't pass up on these for $50, If they are still available I'm going for it and will replace the 16 year old shocks on my stock XJ.
