jimoshel
After trying for an hour and coming up with nada using the search function, I'll try this. Does anyone have a link to adding hydraulic cylinders to the MJ hood? I've already got a dozen cylinders out ready to see what I can come up with. Just don't want to re invent the wheel if it's already been done. One thing I'm worried about is using a too strong cylinder and buckling the hood. I will be experimenting on a wrecked XJ before I actually try a MJ. :dunno: :hmm:
airspeed
I used the Redline kit on my hood. It was way high priced but a fun project. http://www.redlinetuning.com/images/Jeep_Cherokee_8601/IMG_6912.gif
AMCJeepMJ
Maybe this installation manual from Redline will help: http://www.redlinetuning.com/manuals/QL-JEEP_CHEROKEE_86-01-101.pdf.
johnj92131
Jimoshel, Let me know if the Redline installation manual helps you do the install. I like the Redline kit, but I am too cheap from other projects right now.
airspeed
I measured the length, fully extended the strut is 20", compressed it's 12.5". My only complaint is the hood is almost vertical, it is quite a reach to close it.
yellaheep
Jim, Here's a write up using the hatch lift struts from a late model XJ: http://www.grobe.us/Jeep/Tech/Body/hoodlift/qnd-install.htm Indeed, the hatch strut DIY set up raises the hood way open...... but it's cheap and uses only one strut. The Redline kit, while pricey, works perfectly as it should using 2 struts, and keeps the hood at a reasonable height to reach and close. I had the Redline kit on an XJ and liked it alot. Keyav8r
Holy cow! There are MJs with hood insulation and painted engine bays? I thought all of them were grease colored (LOL). Neat installation!
MiNi Beast
I did it and love it. I did mine super cheap per the budget build. Free shock, grinder and self tapper srew and one allen wrench. Pic soon to be posted. :)
