offroader461 Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 i found this MJ at my local junkyard today...got a couple of questions bout it if anyone can make an educated guess I'm almost positive its got the d35 but thats not my dilemma....it has a 2.5L 4-banger....just wanted to know what the ratio of the rear is....3.73 or 4.10???
JeepcoMJ Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 only way to know is to get dirty and look. anything else would be a guess
Pete M Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 These are the rules of thumb. As with most things Jeep, there are no guarantees. 2.5L + 4 speed manual = 3.55 2.5L + 4 speed manual = 4.10 2.5L + auto = 4.56 You still might have to crawl underneath and check the tag.
offroader461 Posted March 20, 2007 Author Posted March 20, 2007 yea i got under to see no tag and the cover was bolted on using hex heads instead of normal bolts  ...wasnt to happy bout being under a truck that was held up off the ground by two sets of rims lol....I'm going to go back later this week to climb under their and look...if its not a 4.10 it will stay there and not come home..but i hope it is a 4.10 cuz i could just bolt it in :brows:

'87 was the start of the 4.56s in auto 2.5s due to the transmission change from the 904 to the (?)AW4. And if it helps my '86 2.5 auto was 4.10s.
offroader461 Posted March 20, 2007 Author Posted March 20, 2007 nice may have to get that until i find a mj d44
jage Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 my 88 and 89 2.5L one with AX4 and one with AX5 both had 3.54. 2wd and 4wd too. Also you can check the front axle for a tag. The ratios should match (if it's 4wd)
jage Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 yeah, that was (always is) my last thought. where are you in AZ? I'm newly in Tucson but my MJs back in indianapolis.

The ratios should match (if it's 4wd) That sounds like the right gearing for a stick shift. Pulled one on accident before. That was a Huge waste of time.
offroader461 Posted March 21, 2007 Author Posted March 21, 2007 i live in peoria... but yea i figured I'm just gunna gear my 35 and just save up for an 8.8 of MJ44
tjbliley Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 My 2.5, AW4 had 4.56's in it and it was an 88. If it has that axle its worth a good bit of money for you to pull it and sell it.
JeepcoMJ Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 lol, tjbilley, he said 8.8, not 88. an 8.8 is a ford 8.8" rear end that's similar if not better than a dana 44.
tjbliley Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 I was talking about pulling the D35 from that MJ in the yard if it has stock 4.56's. That is worth some money but the yard will sell it has a regular axle.
JeepcoMJ Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 I'm so sorry, i didn't mean to sound like a jerk man, sorry.
