jimoshel
I'm sure there are many peeps here in the same boat I'm in. Got a piece of junk,,,er,,ah,, got a tool or item and they don't know what it is or is for. Might even make it a sticky and every body browse through their tool box for that unusual and different but unknown item, post a pic and see if anybody can identify it. For example this. What is it and what is it used for. I'm thinking it was a metal brake for light tin, maybe to put the crimp in for a stove pipe. Stamping on it says "Wentworth Manufacture, Pat'd Mar 3 1873. Any ideas? It's useless for anything I need but I just hate to scrap it.
sinkrun
Looks like a clamp for a old 2 man saw. It holds the blade when setting and sharping the teeth. Here is a smaller version, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Set-2-Clamp-Vise-saw-sharpening-tools-Sargent-Co-90-1-unmarked-/170988913863?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27cfbbc4c7
jimoshel
That was the first thing I thought of, reinforced by the fact there was a dozen or so of them (saws) on the bench with it. However if you will look at pic 2 and notice the groove, as if for for to bend something in.
sinkrun
Here it is says in the description that the grove held a sash cord??? that holds the saw tighter. Does have some value. http://www.ebay.com/itm/DISSTON-TRIUMPH-SAW-TOOTH-SET-1899-WENTWORTHS-SARGENT-151-VISE-CLAMP-LAKESIDE-/140911008470?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20cef35ad6&nma=true&si=CQVp0qMJ7HdasuP16%252Biv6db3Hb0%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

jimoshel
I probably am but just don't have the patience to deal with people to try and do anything with it. Been a pack rat all my life and still got stuff I picked up back in the '50's. Biggest contribution was when grandad passed and I inheireted his old shop and yard. Goes back to the 1890's sometime. He was a well driller as was his dad. I learned the trade and put in my own well at the place I'm at now. Was a Pierce Briggs cable rig from the '20's mounted on a 1934 Ford 1 ton. Took me 10 days to go down 332 feet. Got the best water around. The state inspector had to change his drawers when he came out. First he didn't believe I used that old rig and then he was going to write me up for drilling until I showed my State of Colorado Drillers license. Issued June, 1952. Aw well. That was then and this is now. And I still got a yard full of junk,,er,,antiques.

Comanche County
Okay, here's my entry and its an easy one. Name this tool....BTW, it is of no use on an MJ and I wouldn't sell it for less than $1,000 because its worth far more than the $50 I paid for it. Biotex
It works good on old Willys trucks though. I have one nearly identical. Bolts to the wheel studs and pops those drums right off. Works on my old IH scouts also.

Dirteatr717
Yup it's for a bank vault, you set it for however many hours you'd like and it will not be able to be opened until all timers have gone off. Pretty cool when there taken apart. My dads a locksmith so I have a few kicking around
