skidoo_j
Wait wait wait which sensor are you referring to? there are two right there. The one just above the mount is your coolant temp sensor for your ecu on renix. The longer one further back and lower (just above oil pan) is the knock sensor. From my research they hardly ever fail unless physically damaged. I replaced mine simply because I've replaced all sensors trying to chase a ghost in my system. Minuit
I think he's saying that the green sensor used to be black.
JFAComanche6
That green sensor with the two prongs sticking out of it is for sure the knock sensor. And holy crap, those got expensive! They're on rockauto.com for about $60 without shipping.
87manche1
Yea its crazy stupid pullapart time $2 maybe
Keyav8r
I have the same sensor on my truck. Couldn't figure out what it was as Advance Auto shows the knock sensor as cylindrical in shape with a bolt through the center to attach it to the block. Keyav8r
I also checked Autozone, O'Reillys, and Rock Auto for a 88 MJ, 4.0 knock sensor. All three show the same type sensor as AA. It actually uses a stud with a flange that screws into the block and the sensor slides onto the other end and is held in place by a nut. But my 88 has the style shown in the photo? JFAComanche6
Yea its crazy stupid pullapart time $2 maybe I don't like buying electrical parts from the jy, but $2 versus $62 is a lot better for these stupid sensors. I guess one could buy about 4 of these sensors if they broke again.
