I was on another forum and a guy bought some of this stuff "Amsoil Heavy Duty metal protector". http://www.amsoil.co...efront/amh.aspx and sprayed his entire frame on his new truck. I am ditching my somewhat new and very disliked POS z71 Chevy Tahoe daily driver and getting something different. I live in Northern Indiana and on a dirt road. I keep my trucks for 10 years and want them to last. The guy on the other forum sprayed the entire undercarriage of his truck. It dried to a waxy haze and it seemed to keep his chassis very lubricated and free of dirt and rust. It is really not very expensive. It never hardens completely so bolts will always work. It is an oil base so it always wicks. He said 4 cans did a full size truck. Since my MJ got back from the body shop a couple of years ago, I was thinking of spraying this junk on the frame along with my JK. The rear leafs on my MJ have never seen winter but they still have minor surface rust on them. I think this stuff would prevent that. Plus it looks like it would keep new parts looking new. Since you live on a dirt road, I imagine the hardest part of the job would be surface prep. Getting all that mud and sand caked up in all the creases and crevices off the undercarriage would be a tough job. I would think the coating would last a lot longer sprayed on a clean surface. DIrt roads are a tough environment. I thought I would hit it right when I got the truck. According to the post, it took 3 days to dry before he drove it IIRC. knever3 Posted October 1, 2012 Share Posted October 1, 2012 After reading the AMSOIL web page description it looks like it's basically identical to Castrol's "Chain Wax". I used it on my Suzuki GSX-R'S chain. You needed to ride it for a couple of miles because the wax sticks better with a little heat. I sprayed the chain with brake parts cleaner first before applying.
