Hi guys, so I got a 87 mj column shift , I redone the engine and it runs great!, redone the tranny seal and filter , now the truck won't shift ? Stays in first gear , it shifted fine before the maintance , fluids are good, my question is did I maybe forgot to plug something? Connector ? Or did I just f-up the tranny by replacing fluids and filter? It's just weird it won't shift now, any ideas on what to check or do other than a new tranny? Thanks!

Could it be the TPS? All is hooked links, I have done this several times an never had a problem, now the TPS when unplugged does not affect the idle, so I'm thinking the tps is fried! My understanding is that TPS will cause this as well. Anyone had this?

Update: I bought a new TPS and plugged the TCU back and.... Still does the same thing , stuck in first gear, unplugged theTCU and fine! (manually) so I guess need a new TCU? Found one on eBay from a 89 xj, will this work?

My Son's XJ did the same thing. It was a bad output speed sensor, located on the left rear of the trans. I have seen it described as a switch. You can test it with an ohm meter, I believe, should flick between open and closed as you turn the rear output slowly. maybe it yust got unplugged.

Be in place, but I'll re check, I'm waiting in the "new TCU" we will see if that fixes it, I think is the TCU just because my buddy just threw the thing on the floor like it was garbage so maybe it got banged up and damaged inside.
