relyt120 Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Hey all, I am looking for a Tonneau Cover and I have been searching online for a new one and I have come accross this one: http://www.tonneaucoversone.com/catalog ... egory/117/ Its supposedly made for the Comanche , but I have my reservations. Has anyone ever bought one of these, and if so are they any good? thanks in advance.
dakal Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 just answering. don't know the answers. any reviews on line?
streetjeep2.5 Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Can't comment on this exact one, but I bought a Downey (think it was SST) for my swb over 10 years ago and it fits great and is still in real good shape. I keep my 'manche garaged as much as possible, and keep the cover conditioned with a vinyl cleaner, and when it snows, try to keep it brushed off. I also regularly wash my truck and chamois it, including the tonneau. BTW, did a quick search on that site using the part number they give in your link and it does not show up for any other vehicle, so I would say it is a very good possibility it is for the 'manche swb only. Then, I swiped the link just in case! :brows:
relyt120 Posted June 26, 2012 Author Posted June 26, 2012 I did not find any reviews for the Comanche one but similar models for other vehicles did have good results. knowing that it doesn't claim to fit 20 other vehicles does raise my confidence about it, and knowing that the brand is durable helps too. Thanks guys.
Limeyjeeper Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Put one on my SWB Comanche about 6 months ago. It is specifically made for the Comanche. It is wider at one end than the other. It fits perfectly. Good quality product.
relyt120 Posted June 27, 2012 Author Posted June 27, 2012 Even better, an actual user! Thanks, now if it was only provisioned for a toolbox ;)
streetjeep2.5 Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Order that puppy and put it on! You will be happy! But, keep it in good shape! Make sure and get it on correctly because there is a slight difference in front and back width. I also put camper tape on the bottom of the rails to keep it from scratching and to help with sealing. I periodically remove mine and clean and wax under it. Also, I now keep my spare tire in the bed and a tool box, not one of the front of bed all the way across ones, but a tool box. I also have a Cintas floor mat in there that fits between the fender wells with about 3 inches of space front and back. Keeps things from scratching the bed and moving around! Good investment, and looks cool!
jeepcoma Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Did you get it? Any pictures? I think I'd like to get one, I'm tired of my cap (nice for the winter though). Great that it's a custom fit for the LWB or SWB instead of a universal.
streetjeep2.5 Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Not a close up, but have this of mine taken a few years ago when cover had been on for about 5 years. Still in good shape at almost 10 years.
relyt120 Posted July 23, 2012 Author Posted July 23, 2012  Those look nice, how were they to install? also Limey did you provision it for the rollbar yourself or did you find one pre-provisioned?
my86mj Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 I'm interest in this as well too because i want to make one with space for me headache rack and spare tire carrier so i can get a thunderchief look
JENSSEN Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Found this post from the google,.. Trying to see if these are still available, websites not working for me. I would prefer one that's all Velcro, no visible snaps or fiberglass but beggars can't be choosers -Jenssen
Limeyjeeper Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 www.downeyproductsnortheast.com great company..... Not Velcro but has snaps invisible except for round button on surface. Looks good though.
PCO6 Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 I'm bringing up this old thread because I picked up a Downey tonneau cover and I have a few questions. The one I got has never been installed and it's complete except it didn't come with the 2 cross bars. I can fabricate something but would like to know what material the originals were made of (aluminum, fibreglass, wood, ... ?) and if they were one piece each or two. Two would be better for storage when it's not in use. Any help would be appreciated. I'm probably going to take it into a shop to have it modified to fit around the sports bar. I know it won't be waterproof but given what I'm likely to carry in the bed I'm OK with that.
