On that note,,,one of us is going to have to make a mold of all MJ specific badges, rear flares, B panels, Street MJ add ons, everything else. Some of those hard to find things are going to be gone for good if someone doesn't do it in the next few years. Especially for the early badges, not many 86's around anymore. Anyone have access to a 3D printer?

The capability is available now to 3D scan any object. Then it simply becomes a digital file for future production.

Sorry to hijack, but...

You know, this type of stuff as well as the recent interest in the Thunder Chief makes me wonder if we'll ever hear from someone that actually worked on the MJ/XJ assembly line. I don't think we have any members with first-hand historical front line manufacturing knowledge or even board room engineering experience with the MJ? Has anyone who first drafted the MJ or worked on the assembling line been on here yet? If not, shame on them for not taking pride and nourishing the legacy they helped build.

Yeah Jay it should be done. There are plenty of places that can repop quality badges if given a sample. I've requested a few quotes from various vendors but they are stupid expensive in small lots, especially those with raised letters. I really doubt 100 or so buyers would pony up so they could be had at a reasonable cost. And it would still be a repop, but that's better than nothing I guess.

I have a set of one off 97+ MJ rear flares that I would be willing to send as a template to help the conversion guys out.

I would think you could make a mold of the badges and make them out of aluminum. I took a course in Junior high and we made ash trays and Roman horse heads. Maybe check with a HS shop that has that capability. I am sure a 16 year old kid would be more than happy to make a few bucks for his time.

In theory, couldnt we just make molds of them out of plaster? or just go to a hobby store and get molding kits to make the molds and send them to whoever can use the molds to make badges?

a forge is simple enough to make and a charcoal power one gets hot enough to melt aluminum. I have done some small things after melting a few hounded cans, its not hard. just requires a high quality mold and not Styrofoam buried in sand
